Lunar fan shares an unexpected acquisition story, detailing how the A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus in blue, reference 363.179, captivated him despite not being on his initial grail list. This post highlights the immediate impact of trying on a watch and the serendipitous journey to owning a highly sought-after timepiece. The community's responses underscore the watch's appeal and wearability.
The Odysseus was never on my list of grail watches, but last year, I was in a boutique kicking tires of something recklessly beyond my budget, and the manager suggested I try on a blue Odysseus in steel.
DAMN!
It was a perfect fit, and I fell instantly in love. Too bad it was 18-24 month wait. ; (
Last month, a buddy intro'd me to a dealer specializing in Rolex and FP Journe; oh, and he has a new Blue 363.179! Still wrapped, brand spanki' new, with all the fixins’, boxes, and papers (showing “2026” as its date).
It fits perfectly right out of the box! It's likely to replace the Batgirl as the daily driver.
My wife, who rolls her eyes anytime we are out, and I or anyone else engage in too much wrist check silliness, were surprised by her saying, “Wow, that is really a beautiful watch! Same colors as your car, too!” I hadn’t noticed that the blue dial and white hands paralleled San Merino Blue over an oyster interior.
It wears very comfortably; it has presence, but is not overwhelmingly large – and it’s much more readable than a GMT or a Daytona.
I suspect this may be a forever watch…

The Rolex GMT-Master II reference 126710 was introduced in 2018, marking a significant update to the GMT-Master II line. This reference is notable for reintroducing the Jubilee bracelet to the GMT-Master II collection, a feature previously associated with earlier GMT-Master models. It is distinguished by its Cerachrom bezel insert, available in specific color combinations, and the updated movement, enhancing its precision and functionality within the professional watch range.
This reference features a 40mm Oystersteel case, characteristic of Rolex's robust construction. It is equipped with the Caliber 3285, an automatic movement developed by Rolex, offering a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal and is water-resistant to 100 meters, ensuring durability and legibility under various conditions. The bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel facilitates the tracking of multiple time zones.
The 126710 appeals to collectors interested in modern Rolex tool watches with historical design cues. Its introduction with the Jubilee bracelet provided a new aesthetic option for the GMT-Master II, complementing the existing Oyster bracelet variants. The availability of different bezel color combinations, such as the blue and red "Pepsi" or black and blue "Batman," further defines its place within the contemporary Rolex catalog.
San Marino blue, maybe, but that is full metallic. Two good blues 🍻
I was surprised after I got mine. Way better in person.
