Speedie74 aka Mr. Torquise presents a common dilemma for passionate collectors: whether to address a minor blemish on a cherished timepiece. His post, featuring his A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1, opens a discussion on the philosophy of watch ownership, preservation, and the acceptance of wear. The community offers diverse perspectives on maintaining a watch's original condition versus embracing its 'scars of life.'

Dear Community, Friends, Members!

This could be happen:

if you make a photo-session and two of the contestants are so close that one touched with her crown the other:

Well, it happened on that way, and although it was a very-very light touch, only a little bump, the crown of the Glashütte caused this tiny patch on the side of my Lange1. Destiny, fate?

Who knows me than knows also very well that I am very keen on my watches, almost in an enormous way.
Of course my question is: should I leave my Lange on her current shape or should I have get the issue resolved with a little satination of the side of the watch??

Until now my Lange1 is untouched, unpolished, was total new when I bought her. I am sceptic: now I am thinking about always what would be the best to do and looking first always the ‘damaged‘ smile side of the watch when I pick her up from the box.

BUT I know myself also too well: if I make the side of the watch satinated, then would be the watch never be the same: it wouldn’t be anymore untoched and original as she came first out from the factory.. And this fact would be also DISTURB me a lot!

The rational answer would be to leave the watch in her original shape ( especially by gold watches it is important not to loose a single micron material! ) and eventually if happens a really serious issue with the watch, than ‘repair’ this issue also..

But my heart is bleeding if I see the foggy patch as a little imperfection at a perfect watch...

Guys, what is your thoughts??

Yours,

Adam

I can understand your feelings, but I believe that you can also love scratchs and dings if minor as this one seems to me, they will remember good time spent on your wrist But I know the first one hurts more than the following ones... My 2 cents Ciao Luca

The "damage" you're talking about is that one i've red circled? If so, i really suggest you to wear your watches much more, with both care and levity, because tiny scratches always occur.

Yes, wear them more, enjoy them, and soon, this will blend in with everything else. Any touching the case with polish, as you’ve said, you’ll know that it is now “different”

I am the same if its about my watches or cars etc . Hate it when something like this happends . If it was me i would take care of it . Otherwise you will allways look at it when you have the watch on the wrist .

Watches should be worn...bumped...repaired...otherwise what's the point... If you buy watch and place it under glass dome...it looses it's purpose....remember Zagreb GTG Don't worry be happy with your nice watches ...untouched watch...that's sick

I think that it depends on what you are collecting your watches for. Were you herding a flock of safe queens for investment purposes then I would probably say: Get the little dot removed. But as far as I know your watches get worn. This inevitably goes along with some minor and maybe even major scars of life. Each of those has its own story to tell and taken together these stories (and scars) are a big part of what we call the history of a watch. You could have that speckle removed now. But as y
