I recently turned 30 and want to treat myself to A Lange but I am stuck on which to go for as this will be my first Lange. I have a budget and have been looking mainly at white gold so I can wear it daily either with a suit or jeans.

So far the contenders are

Lange 1 101.030 (quite like the stealth of this watch but also like other dial variations)

1815

RG Timezone

I have been offered a used RG timezone (that is in my budget) although the price is attractive I’m not sure on RG.

Anyway would appreciate owner’s thoughts and opinions on any of these models?

Thanks.

About the A. Lange and Söhne Emil Lange Ref. 1815

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 206.032, introduced in 1999, is a notable example of the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking principles. This model is part of the 1815 collection, which pays homage to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange and emphasizes classic design elements such as Arabic numerals and blued hands, drawing inspiration from historical Lange pocket watches. It represents a more understated and purist aesthetic compared to some of the brand's more complex offerings, focusing on fundamental horological excellence.

This particular reference features an 18k rose gold case measuring 36mm in diameter and 7.5mm in thickness. It houses the manually wound L941.1 caliber, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, protecting a solid silver dial. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion.

The 1815 206.032 appeals to collectors who appreciate classical proportions and a focus on fundamental watchmaking without excessive complications. Its smaller case size reflects a more traditional approach to men's wristwatches, making it a desirable piece for those seeking a discreet yet highly refined timepiece. The combination of rose gold and a silver dial offers a warm and legible presentation, consistent with the collection's historical inspirations.

since it has the signature big date and a useful power reserve complication on an uncluttered asymmetric dial

This would be my choice for a first Lange. The dial has a a lot of character, the proportions are superb, and the movement is very appealing. My favourtie among the 3 you mentionned. Now the question is which one... A white metal one, yes, but the Platinum with the black dial is another step above, IMO. Elegance with strenght. Best, Nicolas

The Lange 1 that you have picked is a nice one: grey dial is cool. I would go for the night owl Lange 1, with luminous on the hands, if it has to be WG: sportier, more every day like. Lange is tradition. Therfore a traditional looking Lange, a credibly old looking Lange: the 1815. Lange 1 is more 20ies or 50ies design. If you can find an used up and down in RG 36 mm in good nick: that would be a very, very Langesque watch! The RG Timezone: only if you have a propper use for it. So, out of your t

Especially since this is your 1st, i strongly suggest the Lange 1. Although i would strongly suggest, why not consider the platinum version of this watch? For but a small premium , you own a watch in a metal tha is pure, rare and eternal. Do not forget to letus know your purchase! Stephen
