SJX initiated a contest offering two copies of a book detailing the restoration of A. Lange & Söhne's Grande Complication No. 42500 pocket watch. The challenge involved identifying a mystery object within the Glashütte manufactory, sparking creative and knowledgeable responses from the community. This engagement highlights the brand's rich heritage and the community's passion for its intricate history.

The generous folks at Lange Uhren have agreed to provide two copies of the recently published book covering the meticulous and amazing restoration of the Grande Complication No. 42500 pocket watch (click here to read more on the book and the watch).

The contest is simple. I will pick two winners:

1. One book will go to the person who can correctly guess where or what the object shown in the picture below is. One clue: it is located in the manufactory in Glashuette. If there is more than one correct reply I will pick the winner at random.

2. The other book will go to the entry I deem to be the most creative, but incorrect, answer to the first question.

The mystery man

All entries must be in the form of a reply to this post. The contest will run until 2359 hrs on Monday 18 October Singapore time (GMT +8). I will contact the winners via PM so please enable the feature in your accounts.

Lastly for those who have visited Glashuette and already know what the above is, please refrain from revealing the exact answer so no pictures please.

Addendum: I just received a copy of the book and it is a wonderful publication with fascinating interviews of the team that restored the pocket watch.

Need a clue...

Any clue? I bet if I ask 10 questions I can get the answer. What is his (I'm assuming it's a man) significance? Historical? Where is he from? Is he supposed to resemble a person who works at Lange or used to work at Lange?

Only one clue

The subject of the photo sits on a very important piece of equipment in the manufactory. No more questions. - SJX
