Let me please share with you some thoughts and pictures of these two chronograph monuments.

When revealed in 1999, the Lange Datograph sent shock waves through the Swiss watch industry. In terms of architecture and finish, the movement was unlike anything seen before.
That at a time when most highend manual chronographs were still powered by the (old) Lemania based movement.

I have opted for the generation 2 model which has,IMO, a better proportioned case considering the diameter/height ratio. Other than that the original version is equally tempting and prefered by others.

I believe it was in 2008 when JLC launched the Duometre chronograph and this was an equal sensation. Such a daring and innovative concept was unseen from any of the traditional big names in the industry.

My version is the PT regular model with the slightly grey dial.

Both watches have strong dials with many small and well done details. A special mention nevertheless for the superbly grained JLC dial.

Both movements are a feast for the eyes. I will not go into the debate of which finishing is better, simply stating that here we two different styles both at very high level.

Despite the fact that in the meantime others have come out with beautiful manual chronograph movements (PP,VC,MB-Minerva) and additional complications are on the market such as the Lange Double/Triple Split or the PP 5370, these two chronographs are landmarks and they have their secured place in the horological hall of fame.

Thanks for looking,
Gerard

You have two of the finest modern Chronographs, here. The third one being, in my opinion, the Montblanc With the cal 13.21 or 16.29.

Lucky you! You are right on the Datograph being unveiled in 1999. The Duometre was unveiled in 2007, though. One, the Datograph, was an instant Classic. The other is an icon to become. As for the movements, two different styles: Baroque for the Lange, more modern for the Duometre. In terms of originality, the Duometre is a champion. Yes, two of the very best " Chrono only " , I mean without additional complications such as a Split or PC... Best, and thanks for these superb photos. Nicolas PS: A

Thanks Nicolas ...and for the correction of the release date for the JLC.

When I got my Duometre I was torn between the PT and your white gold version. I had the chance to compare these two directly at my AD and at that moment my choice was the PT although the decision was close in percentage ,maybe 51:49.

The thing is that between the unveiling and the delivery there was quite a long time. They had to work on the " foudroyante " hand, to make it more reliable. I had the same dilemma between the platinum and the WG.

But I went for the WG because it was psychologically too painful to buy the same watch which was stolen to me...

Sad story with your watch and I absolutely understand the reason why you went for the white gold version. [nt]
