Christianch shares a detailed seven-month review of his A. Lange & Söhne 1815 “200th Anniversary F. A. Lange” in platinum. His post offers a personal perspective on the watch's aesthetics, wearability, and the unique experience of acquiring a limited edition timepiece that was not exclusively for ultra-high net worth collectors. This review highlights the enduring appeal of a discreet yet special anniversary edition.
Here is my (mostly visual) review of the Lange 1815 “200th Anniversary F. A. Lange” after a few months from the purchase. While I had other incomings in the past months
-- probably too many -- I certainly feel as excited about this Lange special edition as I did on day one !!
The pitch black of the lacquered dial combined with the very unique and special shine of platinum makes it a very elegant watch. It fits really well with my montblanc pen and looks
outstanding with a white shirt:
The execution of the dial and the case is just amazing
today we had a lot of sun here in Switzerland so the Lange 1815 looks great at sunlight!
When the watch was announced in February 2015 I was in Dresden and the boutique told me that it would be very difficult to get one. I didn't give up the hopes and I strategically
enquired my Swiss AD where I had more hopes: Lange is not as popular here in Switzerland for obvious reasons. So I was really thrilled to have one waiting for me in September --
and just in time for one of the first Lange events held in Switzerland
Just around the same date I bought the watch I also bought some cufflinks that match very well with the watch
This watch is certainly not too flashy and goes pretty much unnoticed at work and with clients. Yet I feel that it was a great way for Lange to celebrate such an important anniversary.
For once a limited edition not reserved to the ultra-high net worth collection.
Many manufacture only release very out of reach LE so I was very pleasantly surprised by this decision
The clasp is often overlooked but I find it very nice and a great complement to the black alligator strap that is very comfortable
As I have previously stated this watch is simply perfect for business. Very understated and the size at 40mm is just perfect. I enjoy several smaller watches (36mm or 37mm) but
for this Lange the sizing is just perfect. It has enough presence without being too big. The black dial also makes it look a bit smaller
Here a view of the caliber L051.1 that is simple yet with a superior finish and the unique hand engraving
In conclusion I think that this is one of the very best pieces in my collection that I enjoy every time I have the pleasure to wear it. Simple yet very special and exclusive.
Thanks for reading/watching this review

About the A. Lange and Söhne Emil Lange Ref. 1815
The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 206.032, introduced in 1999, is a notable example of the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking principles. This model is part of the 1815 collection, which pays homage to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange and emphasizes classic design elements such as Arabic numerals and blued hands, drawing inspiration from historical Lange pocket watches. It represents a more understated and purist aesthetic compared to some of the brand's more complex offerings, focusing on fundamental horological excellence.
This particular reference features an 18k rose gold case measuring 36mm in diameter and 7.5mm in thickness. It houses the manually wound L941.1 caliber, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, protecting a solid silver dial. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion.
The 1815 206.032 appeals to collectors who appreciate classical proportions and a focus on fundamental watchmaking without excessive complications. Its smaller case size reflects a more traditional approach to men's wristwatches, making it a desirable piece for those seeking a discreet yet highly refined timepiece. The combination of rose gold and a silver dial offers a warm and legible presentation, consistent with the collection's historical inspirations.
