About the Lang & Heyne Johann

Lang & Heyne represents the contemporary renaissance of Saxon watchmaking, emerging from Dresden's rich horological tradition that once rivaled Switzerland's dominance. The Johann stands as the brand's foundational piece, embodying the philosophical approach of founders Marco Lang and Mirko Heyne, who established their manufacture in the early 2000s with a commitment to classical German watchmaking principles. This model serves as their purest expression of traditional dress watch aesthetics, drawing inspiration from historical German pocket watches while incorporating modern manufacturing precision.

The Johann showcases Lang & Heyne's signature design language through its clean, symmetrical dial architecture and prominent subsidiary seconds at nine o'clock. The Roman numeral indices and railway minute track reflect classical German timekeeping traditions, while the hand-finished rose gold case demonstrates the manufacture's commitment to traditional finishing techniques. The manual-winding movement, visible through the exhibition caseback, features hand-engraved German silver plates and blued screws, representing the brand's dedication to in-house caliber development and traditional decoration methods.

As an independent German manufacture, Lang & Heyne occupies a distinctive position within the contemporary collecting landscape, appealing to enthusiasts seeking alternatives to Swiss dominance. The Johann's production numbers remain deliberately limited, reflecting the brand's artisanal approach and the time-intensive nature of their manufacturing process. This positioning places the model within the upper echelon of independent watchmaking, where technical excellence meets cultural heritage, making it particularly attractive to collectors focused on emerging German manufactures and traditional dress watch aesthetics.

Absolutely gorgeous. Still a light bug on the strap attachment, but for the rest, just exquisite.

You nearly don’t see the 3rd lug when on the wrist,

it’s very short so most of the time stays in dark because of the strap. It seems very prominent in the photos and I understand why people have reservations about it, also I see that for a collector and enthusiast of your caliber small details are very important and it would bug you if you don’t like it.

For me, not a deal breaker. Just that I would have preferred not having to see it.

Needs a NSWF in the title ;-)

Very lovely photos of a totally naked movement. And the sexy dial teases...
