Amanico's exploration of the 1989 Jaguar XJ-S 3.6 Coupe invites readers to reconsider this often-overlooked classic. His detailed photos and personal preference for its character over the XK model spark a compelling discussion about its design, performance, and place in automotive history. This article delves into why the XJ-S, with its 220 HP 6-cylinder engine, continues to captivate enthusiasts.

6 Cylinders, 220 HP, not a monster in terms of power, but enough to have a sweet drive in class.

The next best thing after the E Type?

Nice interior...

And dashboard, at the exception of these damn weird water, oil, fuel and battery indicators.

I must say that I prefer this one to the XK:

I find the XJ-S has more character.

You?

Best,

Nicolas

As a kid I did not appreciate it--I was a partisan of the E-type, and thought of this as far too stuffy. Now I love this, especially with the hardtop, and occasionally imagine owning one (though I have no place or use for a second car!). Jim Jarmusch, from his 2013 film 'Only Lovers Left Alive' gets credit for sparking my turnaround on the XJ-S.

I love that long and flat bonnet and the friendly slightly aggressive face. Fits in line with 80s Maseratis and BMWs. And the best rear end of them all has the shooting brake called Lynx Eventer.

I like also the steering wheel of Citroën from this epoch… 😂
