Stromer shares a delightful personal narrative about acquiring a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Rouge, a watch that captivated him with its elegant yet daring aesthetic. This post also beautifully chronicles his fiancée's journey into watch appreciation, culminating in her own acquisition of a red gold Reverso Ultra Thin. Stromer's story highlights the emotional connection collectors form with their timepieces and the joy of sharing this passion with loved ones.

Double Red? Rolex? No, this is the JLC forum and this is a JLC post smile

In the meantime the first part of my story has become well known to you, even if it has been told by others:

A Purist walks through town and stumbles across something in a watch dealer's window or store that he did not expect to find there. He has only seen it on pictures before and found it something between interesting and attracting. Then he sees it in real and immediately he is lost. The only question is: Well he resist like "nitediver" did or will he not like "halkcb".

To make it short: I could not.

I had been wanting a Reverso for a long time (even before this Memovox thing started) but up to now I did not find THE one.
The simple and classic ones somehow looked too classic on my wrist (hard to describe) while the more complicated ones got much of my interest but tended to be too large and thick for my taste. So I decided to wait.
Then when I held the Rouge in my hands I knew that it was the one I had been waiting for. Elegant, daring and bold at the same time and with a dial to be seen but not no be described.
So I got it. (I had not planned to buy a watch this year, but I hope my bank account will forgive me smile )
After two weeks there is one thing I can already tell you: This watch is pure pleasure to wear. I cannot help but smile from one ear to the other each time I look at it. I hope the people around do not consider me a complete idiot smile

Up to this point you have heard the story before. Now for the not so common part:

First a picture that has been taken four years ago at a very private Purists GTG in Paris. Do you see what I mean?

My fiancée was with me back then and what did she throw into the pot? A Fossil?
At that time she did not yet fully understand why I had bought that E855 on the bottom of the pile an hour before. En passant, just because I could not resist it.

However I had given her this NOMOS a year ago as a present and was waiting for the seed to blossom. And indeed, slowly, slowly I could notice
how she appreciated and wore it more and more over the years.

Finally JLC launched the Rendez-Vous. This watch does not receive much attention here but it is a really beautiful watch that I like a lot. My fiancée fell in love with it when she saw it on pictures and for the first time considered spending real money for a real watch. When she finally - she took her time - was ready to face the watch in the metal reality and one of our basic thruths struck her mercilessly: "You have to see it on your wrist."
The Rendez-Vous Night and Day that she had hoped for so much simply did not work for her. It was too small and looked too fragile on her wrist. The Tourbillon matched her wrist perfectly but it played in a league that was out of the question.
Her grief was big. She had been ready to get her a great watch but she was denied it by reality.
The salesman at the dealership understood, he thought about her quite large wrist and he came up with something.
Something that she liked from the beginning and that made her think of it again and again. She went revisiting and retrying it and nine month later she knew she really wanted it.

So when we entered the AD together to see the Rouge she was ready to take the plunge. And she got herself her first JLC: A red gold Reverso Ultra Thin.

When we asked the salesman to show us both the UT Rouge and the UT RG he had in the window he did not see where this was leading.
It was a lot of fun and finally we walked out both of us having gotten her/himself a Reverso Ultra Thin.

Now we have got two red Reversos and what a pair it is. A Red gold and a Rouge. Double Red!

Best,
Martin
