amanico delves into the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin 1907 Enamel Grand Feu, reflecting on his initial reservations and subsequent change of heart. He critically compares it to the MUT 39 Jubilé Platinum, analyzing design nuances, case dimensions, and the impact of a subtle dial inscription. This detailed comparison offers valuable insights for collectors weighing the merits of these two ultra-thin dress watches.

When it was unveiled in 2014, the MUT 1907 Enamel Grand Feu broke my heart for two reasons:

First a very high price, way much higher than the MUT 39 Jubilé platinum which was a real bargain and deal.

Then because of a detail which, in my opinion, ruined the pure beauty of the enamel dial, the mention, located between 7 and 8 o' clock ," email grand feu ".

That mention came on the pre series dial.

Now, remove this mention, and suddenly, the MUT 39 Enamel Grand Feu becomes much more desirable. Jaeger Lecoultre did well to listen to their fans.

Judge by yourself:

The MUT 39 Enamel will always have a serious contender, the MUT 39 Jubilé, whose case has the good taste to be in platinum, and its superb grained dial.

Both MUT 39, Jubilé and Enamel, share the same case size, 39 mm. With two differences for the Enamel: A white gold case, less prestigious than the king of noble metals, platinum, and a case which is almost 1 mm thicker ( 4, 05 mm high for the Jubilé, 5, 04 mm for the Enamel ).

Since it is the same case, why do we have almost one extra millimeter? Because of the slightly thicker enamel dial!

Both watches have a solid case back. Which is a good point... Indeed, the Cal 849 is a very nice movement, one of these good movements from the current production, but it is a small one.

With a 21, 1 mm diameter, it is lost in the 34 mm case of the Master Ultra Thin 1st generation, you can imagine that it is even worse in a 39 mm watch.

So, which one I prefer, now?

My dilemma is that I prefer platinum to white gold, and when it comes to ultra thin watches, the thinner the better, so advantage to the Jubilé. Its spectacular profile and its prices are two other important arguments.

BUT... This now unmolested enamel dial is ravaging my heart. In a still ultra thin case, this is a winning combination, in my opinion. The cherry on the cake, these leaf shaped hands, which are sublime.

Still, you have to swallow the difference in prices...

If you are a big fan of enamel dials, the dilemma is cruel. If you just like them, then no question, the MUT Jubilé is for you.

What do you think?

Best,

Nicolas

You said it all...

First of all thanks for the post. I am curious to see the reactions of our fellow Purists friends and I bet the score will be much in favour of the MUT Jubilé which is also my choice BTW. The design of both is sublime (of course it is the same) but... the thinness is key for an ultrathin dresswatch. Furthermore platinum is always nice for the watchlovers that we are, but again for a dresswatch platinum is another strong argument more than for other type of watches. Just look at the sublime ultra

hands down to...

MUT 39 Jubilé platinum ! Email dial has a good visual impact but personally I love the dial to age along with the watch... The dial of Jubilé has its own character with the grained texture plus it allows you to keep the extra cash for another watch ;-) Is the price of the watch higher than Jubilé only bcos of email dial ? Thank you for the informative post, as always ! Best, Mahesh.,

Yes, because of the enamel dial. But the gap is ( too? ) huge between these 2. [nt]

In my opinion no contest at all:

Jubilee wins on every important issues: material, thickness, price, and one more thing: it is a limited one! I was a lucky owner of a Jubilee, and if I see the pictures, I can tell you: I am still regreting the sale.. Two things speak for the Grand Feu: the dial and her beautiful hands! Yours, Adam

That is the very interesting point.

When both were released, with a difference of one year, there was no match for me. The Jubilé was the clear winner. Now that the enamel dial is " cleaned "... I am not sure anymore. The leaf hands and the enamel dial are torturing me. But let me tell you one thing: The Jubilé is a keeper. Best, Nicolas
