A new member in the family.

After the rose gold, white gold and steel, unveiled in 2013, and after having seen some black dialed beauties, last year, such as the Master Control and the Master Ultra Thin Moon, Jaeger Lecoultre had the good idea to give to the MUT Perpetual 39 a superb black dial.

The 2013 Trio:

A winner, in my book. Why?

First because the MUT 39 mm case is gorgeous. I really hope that someday, the bigger MUT cases will replace the Master Control cases.

39 mm big, 9, 2 mm high, the proportions are beautiful.

Then, the black dial adds strength, no, better said, an incredible power of attraction to this model, in my opinion, without loosing anything from its original elegance.

The demonstration of the fact that a different dial can totally, deeply change your perception of a watch.

The new king of cool?

Surprise: a new rotor, for this latest iteration!

To compare with the 2013 edition:

I cannot end without posting a picture of the first black dialed version of the Master Perpetual Calendar issued in the early 2000's which was a gorgeous watch, with its 37 mm steel case:

Interesting to see that the moon phase was originally located above the 6 o' clock hour marker, and that it moved below 12 o' clock with the Master Ultra Thin versions.

A good surprise from the 2016 collection.

What are your thoughts?

Do you share my enthusiasm for this one?

Best,

Nicolas

The new rotor is really nice as it helps you to better see the caliber [nt]

It is certainly a trend today for brands as watch buyers/owners really love to admire calibers. In addition, with new materials, machines... it is certainly easier for brands to do that because it does not reduce the full function of the rotor [nt]

Still, I am not too crazy about see through case backs, unless there is something exceptional to see. [nt]

This

should be an industry standard by now and that would in turn incentivize manufacturers to up their finishings....

May be some explanations about the departure point of this trend...

It is always hard to say who began to offer display backs on watches. But, I had the chance to meet and talk to Jean Pierre Hagmann (very well known watch and case maker in Geneva who now works for Vacheron) some months ago and he told me that he said to Blancpain, in the 90s, that it would be interesting for them to give the possibility to customers to see calibers. If you look at Blancpain watches at this moment, they were the only ones to offer display backs. Best wishes
