amanico introduces the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual 39 with a black dial, a significant addition to the collection first unveiled in 2013. This post delves into the aesthetic and technical merits of this new variant, inviting collectors to consider its place among JLC's celebrated perpetual calendars.

A new member in the family.

After the rose gold, white gold and steel, unveiled in 2013, and after having seen some black dialed beauties, last year, such as the Master Control and the Master Ultra Thin Moon, Jaeger Lecoultre had the good idea to give to the MUT Perpetual 39 a superb black dial.

The 2013 Trio:

A winner, in my book. Why?

First because the MUT 39 mm case is gorgeous. I really hope that someday, the bigger MUT cases will replace the Master Control cases.

39 mm big, 9, 2 mm high, the proportions are beautiful.

Then, the black dial adds strength, no, better said, an incredible power of attraction to this model, in my opinion, without loosing anything from its original elegance.

The demonstration of the fact that a different dial can totally, deeply change your perception of a watch.

The new king of cool?

Surprise: a new rotor, for this latest iteration!

To compare with the 2013 edition:

I cannot end without posting a picture of the first black dialed version of the Master Perpetual Calendar issued in the early 2000's which was a gorgeous watch, with its 37 mm steel case:

Interesting to see that the moon phase was originally located above the 6 o' clock hour marker, and that it moved below 12 o' clock with the Master Ultra Thin versions.

A good surprise from the 2016 collection.

What are your thoughts?

Do you share my enthusiasm for this one?

Best,

Nicolas

It would be nice if the dial was available in French, like the original - for me it would add a touch of romance (well, at least a Romance language, hehe) to the watch. Aside from that there is much to admire here, a great case, useful complication, nice dial and a solid (albeit not captivating) movement. I do like the new rotor and that they are using straight rather than curved Geneva stripes, however the architecture is not anything to talk about from a visual standpoint and the finishing see

I agree, the movement is honest, not exceptional, which is logical for that price range. Thanks for your feedback, my friend. Best, Nicolas

the black dial makes a statement of class and the new rotor is a nice touch. Personally would like one, but like my MUT Moon 39, I can't read the subdials well, and to me if there is a function or complication I can't use then I probably will pass. Still, not to take anything away from this collection, they really are coherent and balanced.

And a lot of bang for the buck! Real classy

The wrist shot I took a few weeks ago.

however, in the old version, in which JLC turned the complication plate 180 degrees, I liked better, especially with the last 2 digits of the year embedded within the top subdial. I feel it gave it better overall balance and made it look less like the Kurt Klaus module the way IWC has it laid out in the Portuguese 7-day QP. -Dean
