Dje's 2009 post shines a light on the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Hometime, specifically the 2008 SIHH release. He highlights the aesthetic and functional improvements that make this iteration a significant upgrade. This article explores Dje's observations and the community's reactions to the updated Hometime, a piece that, despite its merits, remained somewhat under the radar.
We discovered
last year a new Master Hometime at the SIHH 2008. In fact we didn't
see much that watch since last year.
That's
quite surprising because IMO the new version improves a lot the Hometime
offering.
The watch keeps
the best from the original version, its calibre 975. This calibre was deeply
reviewed by Suitbert Walter, you can still see it there: http://www.thepurists.net/Patrons/Members/wsw/jlc_at/jlc975finweb.htm
The calibre 975
still lacks a Breguet spiral, but it is much more nicely cased now.

The new 40mm
round case is much nicer than the former version. The lugs are particularly
thinner. I should add that I specially appreciate the new crown.
The new dial is
also more equilibrated than the former dial version. I've long waited for
a picture without the second time zone hand, here it is.

I've
taken the opportunity to present all four standard and boutique editions. My
favourite is in fact the standard stainless steel silver dial one, but all four
are quite nice.

Of course the
stainless steel black dial boutique edition is one of those few opportunities
to get a black dial Master. The stainless steel bracelet is also a tempting
option. I must confees that for such a dress watch the crocodile strap pairs
better the silver dial for my taste.

The pink gold
version is the colourful one. I'd be more tempted by pink gold 1833
Master Ultra Thin. Still I know the Master range has its pink gold customers!

I will keep the
standard stainless steel version for what it is: a simple watch with a second
time zone and furthermore a watch with chronometric capacities, that can stand
everyday's life easily, a sport watch dressed in formal attire! Again
like Suitbert originally wrote, I'd love to see this calibre evolve with
a Breguet spiral. I would keep this case and dial though!

So you can
choose yours, it is a very tempting simple offering from Jaeger-LeCoultre that
is pretty much affordable and still brings quite probably a very rewarding
everyday experience.

Got yours?
Cheers
Dje
Is the regular steel model available on a bracelet? I think that's my favorite, close behind is the pink gold. I really like the contrast of the pink vs. blue hands A
morning Dje, is it the white gold version, boutique edition? I thought that the grey dial was reserved to the boutique edition, only in white gold? however, a great blend, nice watch. thanks so much. olivier
With the Time, I'm loving a bit more the simple version in SS with the silver dial than the WG Ruthenium dial. The new version is really a superb watch, with these aesthetical im!provements on the lugs and bezel. I didn't notice that the crown has changed, Jerome... Superb, but also friendly with its interesting complication, and affordable, too. The only ting I hope is that JLC will generalize these improvements on all their Master Cases... Thanks for the nice write up, my friend, Best, Nicolas
I really like the aesthetics of this model, thanks for posting. Cheers David
We haven't seen much of this watch indeed the last year; and I really thought it would be a big hit! I must say that having it on the wrist a few times at my AD I was somehow a littlebit dissapointed and it made me appreciate the old Hometime more. Depending on the light the dial sometimes looks a bit plain. To me it looks better on the pictures than on my wrist (yes, probably due to my wrist). But seeing your pictures Dje; awesome. Especially the grey dial would be more than welcome in my "coll
I especially love the grey and black dials on these watches ... great post, thankd Djé ... Filip
