Last year, we saw the MGT Minute Repeater in rose gold, with its new 39 mm case, housing the Cal 942, which is, with the Rendez Vous Ivy, and, of course, the Hybris Mechanica 11, the first automatic minute repeater of the brand.
Last year MGT Minute Repeater 39:
This year, we have the Van Gogh enamel dial.
The Small Seconds disappeared at the benefit of a superb plain enamel dial. Without holes to let the hammers of the minute repeater play.
Which is good, for me, as this was a detail I disliked on the former Master Minute Repeater enamel versions.
Still, two problems: The " sonnerie plaque ", which hides the gongs welded to the sapphire, a revolutionary but now traditional technique used by JLC.
And, this prominent pusher, shaped as a trigger, which I find too big for a watch of this class.
It houses the Cal 942, an automatic movement which is nice looking from the dial side, a bit less interesting to see from the back side.
Here, a view on the dial side:
The proportions of the case are great, from my point of view: 39 mm is a very good size, and 12, 2 mm is not too thick.
And these new Master Grande Tradition cases are very elegantly re shaped, I have to say.
Now, is the path toward automatic movements for a minute repeater a good thing, that I am less sure...
Best,
Nicolas
