Astronomical watches lovers didn't forget the Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication, which combined an Astronomical Dial to a Minute Repeater:

What if the Minute Repeater was removed?

What is the interest to remove the minute repeater?

One pro and one con.

The pro is that the case is much thinner, better proportionned, without minute repeater, the volume of the case is much more pleasant to see.

Much thinner, and substantially smaller, as the Celestial is 42 mm big, versus 44 mm for the Grande Complication, both being made of white gold, to be complete.

I don't have the height of the Celestial ,but knownig that the Grande Complication is 15, 8 mm high, and that the Cal 945 is 2 mm bigger, I would rate the Celestial around 13 or 13, 5mm.

The con? The movement is less eyecatching, as there are much less détails to see, on this calibre whose reference is Cal 946 ( 945 for the MGT Grande Complication )

The dial displays the Celestial Time through the flying tourbillon, the 24 hours via the rotating sun, the months, the zodiac signs, and a maginficient sky chart.

Blue Lacquer, Aventurine, Guillochage, these are the refinements which will please the very few owners of these pieces, as they are limited to 3.

To top it, the sapphire Crystal is domed.

I have a very small reserve on this Watch. I would have preferred Leaf shaped hands, rather than the Dauphine.

But I can live with that, as it is one of my 3 favourite Hybris Artistica Watches.

Here are the pictures I could take at the Manufacture.

Another successfully completed Watch, in my opinion.

What do you think?

Best,

Nicolas

... if I could get my hands on this watch. Oh my, this is simply phantastic!! I think the removal of the minute repeater is a very good idea, since it leaves the pure function of an astronomical watch. These are a category for themselves, and should not be "spoilt" by too many additional complications. I assume this new version woll also be ... ahem ... cheaper .... no? thanks for showing this marvel! Marcus

But I totally agree with you on the fact that this one is a category for itself, whch doesn't really need another complication. Like you, I am a sucker for astronomical watches. I do really hope that JLC will release a version of this one, which would not be a L.E. With or without flying and orbital tourbillon. My favourite Hybris Artistica! Best, and thanks for your input, Marcus. Nicolas

.. that conceptually I am fond of all astronomical measurement- instruments, and even more so on this piece of a display of celestial wonders plus a Flying Tourbi ; - where time and its measurement are correlated with sun, the stars ( I guess) AND on top has this splendid aura of a watch I'm not really qualified to judge on the complexity of a pure astronomical piece, but I am very susceptible to the ode of different components of blue, semi- precious and WG - components.. - Love really the aven

Watch... But I don't think it is necessary to fully enjoy this marvel. Thanks for your feedback, my friend. Best, Nicolas

How do you read this watch? I googled directions on this, but got no where. I read the Patek Celestial directions, and that is clear. Since your pix are so crystal clear :) it begs to know more about this watch. Thanks Joe

ruined... Damn! To read the time is easy. The rest is complicated... Will try to find a way to explain it in an easy and accurate way. Thanks, Joe. Nicolas
