Our dear friend Sandgroper introduced us an extraordinary watch, some months ago, the Master Geographique " Ketchum ", in platinum.

38 mm of a rare beauty, with its typical case, in the style of the Odysseus or of the Grand Reveil from the same era ( late Eighties / very early Nineties ).

Rare, it is because in platinum, it is limited in a series of 250 pieces, but mostly because of a small detail: JLC changed the Denver Time Zone to replace it by Ketchum, a town in Idaho, which is known to be the place where Ernest Hemingway is buried.

And to add to the specificity of this piece, Ketchum is written in blue, while all the other cities are written in black.

Rare, specific and... Mysterious... Why Ketchum replaced the most conventional Denver time zone, nobody knows, even JLC...

François being in town, recently, he had the good idea to bring this watch with him, and kindly let me take some pictures of it.

Without further delay, here they are.

This watch is the perfect of illustration of what we experience everyday in our dear hobby: When you think you know quite all about something, you just realize you know something.

You have a treasure, here, François. Take care of it!

Best,

Nicolas.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of history. It's good to know there are still some mysteries left without explanation. Especially as beautiful as this.

The platinum and white gold versions of the master geographique are simply to die for. Thanks for sharing these pictures, I remember the watch from the previous posting. The first JLC that caught my attention was the white gold version sitting in the second section of my local AD. That will remain one of the watches that I missed... --Sancerre

I believe Ketchum is a very upscale community very close to Sun Valley, a true skiing mecca. Perhaps JLC had a wealthy client or retailer in mind from Ketchum when they designed this dial? The 2010 census indicates the town has less than 3,000 residents, a bit smaller than Denver! Cheers, Robert

I am jealous that you get to photograph it. This is indeed a gem and a rarity that the community is not likely to see if you did not post it here with such beautiful photography. My salute to you and Francois for this learning opportunity. /W72
