Nicolas (amanico) revisits the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Chronograph Calendar a year after its 2020 release, prompting a community discussion on its enduring appeal. His initial positive impressions and desire for a black dial variant set the stage for collectors to share their nuanced perspectives on this elegant complication, exploring its design, value, and potential for future iterations.

Issued in 2020, this Master Control Chronograph Calendar was quite positively welcomed.

And rightly so, as it is a very elegant and classic watch we have here, with its new case.

What do you think, one year after its release?

I am still positively impressed by this one, just waiting to see if Jaeger Lecoultre will issue it with a black dial, to add some strength to its natural elegance.

You?

Best,

Nicolas

first does not provide good legibility and second removes some of the character the dial could/should have. Your idea of a black dial would enhance these two shortfall for sure

I was initially excited because I like the idea and the basic arrangement, like, it's exactly the kind of watch I want to see from JLC's Master line. But it's just not lighting my fire. Like you both, I'd be interested in seeing what a black dial might do (it did a TON for the last generation Master Control).

The complications combination makes a lot of sense: it is a good mix of vintage traditions and a modern reinterpretation. The negatives? Size and price...

Quite frankly,I love this watch.I could see it the other day at my AD and basically liked everything about it : the case, the movement, the proportions. Certainly one of the very best JLC offerings from the past years....and for once pretty correctly priced. I felt however that the silver dial gives it a too conservative look and was just wondering what a black dial would do for that watch. And JLC does black dials so well; just look at the awesome MUT perpetual in steel with the black dial. Now,

And I always find it interesting to hear initial impressions of the master control line. I, too, similarly felt that my JLC was cold when I first purchased it. The silver dial / markers are exceedingly restrained; the dial, while proportioned exceedingly well, lacked character and charm; and the watch itself lacked a presence on the wrist. However, if you fast forward nearly a decade: the watch looks as great now as it did then (is the MUT Moon one of the better designed watches out there? I lik
