.. well, you know that situation, when you have chosen either your watch of the day,
sometimes for several days, or even a week..
Then it comes into your mind, that this or that one from your portfolio might
deserve some add'l fresh air & wristtime..
As this second half of the week is more informal during the days, I was looking to
some of my pieces, which might be nice to renew my affection and love, there was
when getting her..
Alas, along these lines, here is what I just took out, as of today, as my daily wristware
- It is my trustworthy Master Compressor Memovox, a watch we don't see too much here
although it is a classy beater, IMO and also with some bullish charm, that I like..
As you will know, this watch had only a rather short production cycle, from around 2004/05,
until 2008; there were miniscule, tiny dial differences, between the 2 successive versions
in which it came:
- both with the strong appeal of the 3 crowns, 2 of which with a locking system,
one @2 for the alarm winding and moving the quarter arc scale with the alarm times
to bring it up to the small arrow @ 10, which is not moving; the second crown @ 4
as expected for watch winding & hands, and finally the non compressor crown @10
for bidirectional moving of the bezel
I do like this piece, as it is a representative of the compressor-case line, and therefore
to some degree also a forerunner of Amvox 1 and the Polaris
It has a pretty strong presence on the wrist, and those accentuated crowns with their
"arret" position ( then white arrows) block the movement of the crowns, while
in the move/wind position ( the red arrows) they are free to be wound according
to their relative functions..
Finally, as it is from the compressor series, it also has a very nice caseback with the
Planisphere logo with Compressor writing in a gold medaillon, middle of the caseback;
apart from the optically nice feature, it lets the watch, which has a bit a massive appeal,
sit were comfy on the wrist, and I like that very much..
Happens, that I had been chasing one, to complement my MMV - series and to amend
to the compressor watches, I have.
So, by the end of last year the opportunity came to find one, in great condition,
also in a fair price segment, so it was easy to acquire it, without hesitation.
When taking it on, it is a nice experience, a coherent piece, with a nice aura
illustrating that strong, but still charming appeal, with the aura of
solidity, but also a tint on the dress side, where you may combine it
with many occasions to blend it.
The black dial, with wide trapezoidal white indices, the numbers of 6,9,12
( date @3) remind on the Polaris and the common DNA,
also with the Amvox-1, IMO.
Finally what I also like, are the white/red type of the tips for alarm arrow &
also the white/red tipped second hand, something we also find also
on the black Master Memovox ( maybe you remember Blomman's nice
Black Master Memo).
Now without much further ado, here are some more recent pictures,
