Jlux shares a personal review of his Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre à Chronographe in platinum, a watch he considers a highlight of his collection. This post offers an intimate look at the ownership experience, from his initial attraction to hand-wound chronographs to his decision to switch from the rose gold to the more discreet platinum version, highlighting the unique dual-wing Caliber 380.
First, let me please apologize for having been absent from the site for quite a while. As I want to start participating actively again, I thought that perhaps a small series of personal reviews of some of my watches would be a good way of re-entering the site.
I want to start with a watch that is very dear to me and certainly is one of the highlights from my collection : the JLC Duometre à chronographe in PT.
I do have a special weakness for hand wound chronographs and therefore it is no wonder that the Duometre immediately catched my attention when being launched a few years back.
I then got my first one in PG : a beautiful watch but also a big block of colored gold on the wrist that made me feel uncomfortable in some instances.

I finally decided to change it against the PT version, a decision that I have not regretted since then !
I recently learned in a thread from Nico that this PT version is already discontinued since 2011 and that significantly less than 200 of those have ever been produced.

Of course, one of the highlights of the watch is the dual-wing 380 caliber with “foudroyante” seconds hand.
This movement is really fascinating and offers a high level of finishing.
To me, certainly one of the real relevant and important chronograph movements…all brands and times confused !

Some macros to show the complexity and beauty of the movement.

The slightly grey dial has an elegant grained texture.

The case has a finely brushed middle part and is of quite substantial dimensions (42mm x 13.6mm). The short and curved lugs make the watch however sit comfortably on the wrist. All in all , this is a very elegant watch to wear !

For comfort reasons, I regularly exchange the folding buckles of my watches by simple pin buckles. I did the same for this JLC ordering their very nicely made PT buckle.

Hope you liked this small review.
Thanks,Gerard
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre Chronographe represents a pinnacle achievement in the manufacture s storied horological legacy, embodying the technical mastery that has defined the Le Sentier-based company since 1833. Introduced as part of the groundbreaking Duomètre collection, this reference showcases Jaeger-LeCoultre s revolutionary dual-wing concept, where two independent gear trains operate within a single movement - one dedicated to timekeeping and the other exclusively for the chronograph function. This innovative architecture eliminates the energy drain typically associated with chronograph complications, ensuring consistent precision whether the chronograph is running or stopped, a technical breakthrough that solidifies JLC s position among haute horlogerie s most accomplished manufactures.
At the heart of this sophisticated timepiece beats the remarkable Calibre 380, a hand-wound mechanical movement that exemplifies Jaeger-LeCoultre s commitment to chronometric excellence. The dual-wing construction features separate mainspring barrels powering each function, with the chronograph mechanism capable of measuring intervals to 1/6th of a second precision. The movement s architecture allows for optimal energy distribution and enhanced reliability, while its 50-hour power reserve ensures consistent performance. Housed within a substantial 42mm white gold case and protected by sapphire crystal, the black dial provides exceptional legibility with its carefully balanced chronograph subdials and refined finishing that reflects the manufacture s uncompromising attention to detail.
The Duomètre Chronographe occupies a distinctive position within the contemporary collecting landscape, representing both technical innovation and traditional Swiss watchmaking excellence. Its unique dual-wing movement concept sets it apart from conventional chronographs, making it particularly appealing to collectors who appreciate horological innovation and mechanical sophistication. The combination of white gold construction, the prestigious Calibre 380 movement, and Jaeger-LeCoultre s manufacture heritage creates a compelling proposition for serious collectors seeking timepieces that demonstrate both technical merit and enduring craftsmanship from one of Switzerland s most respected horological institutions.
and great review so you are excused because of your absence ;) Cordially Damjan
I am always happy to see posts, reviews, articles and pictures of the Duometre, and the " A Chronographe " doesn't make exception to that! Your pictures are awesome, and God knows how tough is this Watch to take in pictures. The case, the dial, the movement, all is top on this Watch. As already mentionned, I'd love to see deeper and sweeter bevels on this movement, but I am very picky, and this is not a detail which will make me stop loving this Chronographe, one of the best in the current produ
I am with you on your remarks about the movement finish. Certainly very well done and at a high level, I would also prefer the kind of finishing that I saw from the Duometre Tourbillon that I had the chance to see briefly once at the Paris boutique. But again, this is complaining at a very high level .... Best, Gerard
The A Chronographe was priced very fairly, in my opinion, for what it was ( and is ). The Spherotourbillon belongs to another leaguen in terms of price AND finish, indeed. Best, Nicolas
and review of your watches. thank you for sharing!
Many thanks for this wonderful review. Interesting evolution that you went from RG to Pt : I did the same many years ago for the L&S Datograph when was very happy about the move as well even if the Duometre and Datograph are of course not really comparable. Big congrats for your Duometre and many thanks for sharing this beauty here with us. Wear it in the best of health. Best, Mike
