Nicolas (amanico) revisits the Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph, a watch that, despite its 'invented' vintage aesthetic, has sparked considerable discussion among collectors. His initial impressions and detailed photographs from its 2012 SIHH unveiling offer a fresh look at this unique piece, prompting the community to re-evaluate its charm and design choices.

It's been a long time we didn't discuss that JLC Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph!

This Watch is a kind of Sci Fi one. It didn't exist, till JLC decided to invent it.

It could have existed, though. The look is very vintage with its faux patina, its two subdials, its plexy, and its very sensual ( non turning ) bezel.

Here are the pics I could take outdoor and in door at the end of 2011. The Watch was unveiled at the 2012 SIHH, so a bit more than three years ago.

Not as technical as the Deep Sea Chrono, Cermet or steel, but maybe more charming.

What do you think?

Best,

Nicolas

I am lack of knowledge about this model, therefore sorry for my silly question: Was the watch ever produced as a special series watch or was just a prototype? I like the two-counter chronograph, reminds me the older days.. Yours, Adam

I would have preferred a rotating diving bezel, since I don't see this vintage bezel going naturally with the rest of the watch. But this is the first I've seen it. So maybe I'll digest it and change my feelings. I actually prefer the deep sea chrono, in e

.. It's " raison d'etre": the 2 DSAs, superb - covering both US & EU; and then what: a Chrono, having its roots in the diver family ?? The bezel insert in fact without function, and a clear DNA from the EU one, which I understand. And yes, the 2-compteurs version is much more pleasing.. Along that line, I can live with the fact, that JLC currently doesn't have a substantial, a really breathtaking Chrono in their offer ; - OK, there are the Chrono in the Navy Seal Compressor line, then the Extrem

Yes, it was in production in 2011. Best, Adam. Nicolas

A rotating bezel on the " vintage " would have been fun. But JLC played the glamour card on the " vintage " and the technical card on the " no vintage ". Hence the complementing offer. The choice. Best, my friend. Nicolas
