BLADK5's recent acquisition of a New Old Stock Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph highlights the thrill of securing a rare timepiece and the strategic decisions collectors make to refine their holdings. This article explores the unique appeal of the JLC Deep Sea Vintage Chrono, a model celebrated for its distinctive origins and design, as BLADK5 shares his journey of evolving a two-piece collection.

Just received this beauty, found it as a NOS piece from a seller in Germany. Had to let my Sub LV go, but it was worth it. The JLC is not easy to come by, let alone in this condition, and I can always pick up another Sub down the road. Plus, I have a Black Bay 54 that’s off for modifications (big crown and acrylic crystal). Once I get that back, I’ll have a solid two piece collection. Here’s the before watch, and after. Not a great photo of the JLC, I will have to take some better shots.

About the Jaeger LeCoultre Black Bay Ref. 79000N

The Jaeger LeCoultre Black Bay reference 79000N is a notable diver's watch that represents a distinct period in the brand's modern catalog. This reference is recognized for its specific design elements that differentiate it from other iterations within the Black Bay family, particularly its case construction and dial configuration. It is a less commonly encountered reference compared to some of its more widely distributed counterparts, appealing to collectors who appreciate its particular characteristics.

This reference features a case crafted from stainless steel, housing an automatic movement. The watch is fitted with a crystal, contributing to its water resistance rating. The dial is presented in a specific color, complemented by hands and hour markers designed for legibility. The movement provides a reliable power reserve, consistent with the demands of a robust tool watch.

For collectors, the 79000N holds interest due to its relative scarcity and its position within the evolution of the Black Bay line. Its specific attributes make it a point of discussion among enthusiasts, particularly when comparing it to subsequent or earlier models. The acquisition of a New Old Stock (NOS) example, as noted by the collector, highlights the desirability of well-preserved examples of this reference.

Our friend Nico can tell you how this watch came into existence, tribute to a vintage watch that never existed ... I am biased because I love chronographs, but I like it even better than the (exceptional) alarm ones.

The Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph is not a tribute but is an extraordinary watch. Nicolas sketched out the basic outline on a paper tablecloth during a dinner with Jérôme Lambert during his first term as CEO of JLC... Jérôme didn't say anything to anyone and launched it... without revealing a word about its origins... A watch with Vlad soul… Here it is alone and with its friends : Best Ø
