Nicolas (amanico) shares his enduring affection for the Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Alarm E 857 US Version, a vintage reference that continues to captivate collectors. His post highlights the watch's unique aesthetic and wrist presence, prompting a discussion on its timeless appeal and market desirability. This piece offers a glimpse into why certain vintage JLC models remain highly sought after.

Once on the wrist, it is hard to take it off...

It is such a beauty.

I took a decision about the watch which will replace it on my wrist in the next days to come. Another Jaeger Lecoultre, but a modern one, this time.

Best and HAGWE!

Nicolas

About the Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Ref. E857

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox reference E857 is a notable example of the brand's alarm watch production from the mid-20th century. This particular reference is distinguished by its larger case size compared to earlier Memovox models, reflecting a shift in design preferences during its era of production. It maintains the characteristic dual crown configuration, with one crown for time setting and winding, and the other for setting and winding the alarm function.

This reference typically features a stainless steel case, though gold-capped or solid gold variants were also produced. The case diameter measures 37mm, a substantial size for its period. It houses the automatic Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 825, an important development as it was one of the first automatic alarm movements. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 45 hours and is protected by a plexiglass crystal.

The E857 appeals to collectors interested in historically significant alarm watches and the evolution of automatic movements. Its larger dimensions make it a more wearable option for modern tastes compared to some earlier Memovox references. Variants exist with different dial finishes and hour marker styles, offering variety within the reference.

An unbeaten classic of all times. Unfortunately, Jaeger did not beat it since then.

What is it about these older watches, which look interesting and different, yet still understated? That's a real beauty -- very special. And I like your 'action' photos -- the watch is enhanced by the car, wrist, and scenery. My advice -- more pics like this ;-) You've done a few very nice ones lately.

Still have only found 2 in the last 3 months and both with no papers...Still need to save for my next one ( GO PanoMatic Lunar or VC Overseas 4500V).... The DSA is creeping up the list and I am thinking the it will fall in between these 2 from a price point I just hope I can find one...someday -D-
