This exploration encourages collectors to delve deeper into the brand's extensive archives beyond its most commonly discussed models.

Some very nice ones such as...

This Duoplan from 1932. This is a line we rarely discuss here.

This iconic Futurematic, from 1957:

The very elegant Geomatic, in gold:

One of the icons, the Geophysic, here with its crosshairs dial:

The E 855 Blue Scale, from 1968:

The Funky Snowdrop E 877 from 1972:

The Funky E 873, here with its white dial.

A superb Deep Sea Alarm, European model, from 1961 ( last production year ).

The much less known Powermatic, in gold here, from 1951.

The mysterious Quartermaster. Not sure about the hands, though.

One of the stars, the gorgeous Reverso Red.

Best,

Nicolas

About the Jaeger LeCoultre Master Mariner Memovox Ref. E877

The Master Mariner Memovox reference E877 is a notable example of Jaeger-LeCoultre's alarm watch production from the late 1960s and early 1970s. This particular reference is distinguished by its robust case design and the integration of the Memovox alarm complication within the Master Mariner line, which was known for its more resilient construction. It represents a period when the brand was exploring more contemporary case shapes while maintaining its horological traditions.

This reference typically features a stainless steel case, often with a cushion or tonneau profile, measuring approximately 39mm in diameter. It houses an automatic winding movement, specifically the Caliber 916, which provides both timekeeping and the distinctive mechanical alarm function. The crystal is commonly acrylic, contributing to its period-correct aesthetic. The movement offers a power reserve suitable for daily wear.

For collectors, the E877 is appealing due to its distinctive aesthetic and the reliable Caliber 916. It offers a blend of practical complication and mid-century design, making it a sought-after piece for those interested in vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre alarm watches. Its variations in dial finish and case execution provide further collecting interest within the broader Memovox family.

Duoplan movements, especially when fitted with mens cases, have been among my favorite Jaeger-LeCoultre productions. But I have refrained until now to buy one of those.

The Tribute to Geophysic 1958 in steel and the 2016 Memovox Boutique Edition, whose dial looks very much like the Snowdrop (what a cool name for a watch!)

Two main reasons: First, I have found difficult to stumble upon the specific models I especially covet; Second, I am worried about service issues, as those Duoplan watches were initially marketed as being time and cost-efficient in their repair: in case of a mechanical issue, the tiny movement was to be replaced by an authorized Jaeger-LeCoultre agent, saving time and labour cost when compared with a traditional rhabillage. Do you know if those are easy to repair nowadays?
