Ripper444's acquisition of a Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece, despite initial reservations about its movement, underscores the powerful influence of a captivating dial. This post delves into the nuanced experience of owning a watch where aesthetic appeal triumphs over perceived technical shortcomings. Ripper444 provides a candid assessment of the watch's performance, comfort, and the ongoing debate surrounding modern movement power reserves.

We will duly forgive your hypocricy...
Agree, do wish 38 h reserve was longer.
and as for the movement...yup...JLC got caught flat-footed by the other manufactures and is now playing catch-up with movements that provide longer power reserves. I said it before, 70 hrs-72 hrs autonomy on a single full wind is fast becoming the standard.
So the new norm for power reserve is around 70 hrs. I know 38 is a lot less, but if you're wearing it quite a lot isn't it fairly academic? I'm not sure if I understand why 70 hours has been seen as the new way forward. But that's all by the the by, looks a great watch. Enjoy wearing it Cheers JML
Longer PR is usually more beneficial for manual wind watches. However, with low PR on automatics, sometimes watches stop in the middle of the night if one doesn't move around enough. Case in point, my 7-day PR IWC Big Pilot sometimes loses 1 day overnight even if I am wearing it. So, if you happen to have a 72-hour PR and it's at least 2/3rd wound, you don't risk the watch stopping while sleeping.
Usually folks change watches or take off watches altogether during the weekend. With the longer PR you can take off the watch off on Friday and then put it back on again on Monday and it will still be running with the precision undisturbed. No need to wind or set the watch again.
