Amanico revisits the IWC Portuguese 7 Days Ref. 5000, a highly desirable first-generation model from 2000, later updated in 2004. He shares his appreciation for its 42mm case proportions, the eye-catching steel panda dial, and its then-uncommon 7-day automatic movement, considering it the most appealing modern Portuguese after the 1993 Jubilé.

Born in 2000, re visited in 2004, this Portuguese 7 Days 1st generation is a very desirable watch.

Its 42 mm big, 13, 5 mm high case has some great proportions. The steel version with its panda dial is eye catching, and the automatic 7 days movement was a curiosity at that time. indeed, there weren't that many watches with such a long power reserve.

In my opinion, the Reference 5000 is the most appealing modern Portuguese, just after the delicious Jubilé born in 1993.

In steel, this watch is a limited edition of 1000 pieces, which was also available in rose gold and in platinum, but I must say that the dial of the steel pleased me more.

A watch I owned, and which was part of those which have gone.

So, when I saw it in a parisian shop today, I couldn't help taking pictures.

Here it is, in all its beauty and sensuality.

The movement is not bad looking, either...

Best,

Nicolas

I completely agree with you. My only concern with the Ref 5000 is the absence of water resistance. But the lack of date is definitely a plus. jubilee 5441 is, of course, the grail! HAGWE

I recently acquired the 5454-04 and is absolutely thrilled with it. Loved it when these Portugiesers were thinner and had no date. Perfect!

in favor of the no-date. But i do like a date on my watches, especially if there is plenty of room on a dial like on a Portugieser. Nice pictures Nicolas.

there should be a button at 10.00 on the case side you can push when you wake up in the morning to see the day/date/month change. But a nice watch it surely is !

Came so close to pulling the trigger a few times around 2005-2006 but could not really convince myself in that last minute of decision making. Still beautiful and has something quite special this 1st gen...

nice power reserve at 3 plus no date. 42 mm is too big for me but I still like this watch.
