In a fascinating inquiry, kjkt3 delves into the distinctive case back of the IWC Mark XX, questioning the presence of the Junkers Ju-52 aircraft. This discussion uncovers the historical and symbolic connections between IWC's pilot's watches and aviation, a crucial aspect for collectors understanding the brand's heritage. The thread explores the specific partnership and the broader implications of such design choices on modern luxury timepieces.

To put a plane at the back and wrote pilot’s watch. Maybe in the old days IWC did this on their watches, and repeat it on reissues. I don’t mind, i prefer sapphire backs. On my Longines i found this at the back. But it is a brands logo, so no problem. I see a few Montblanc watches with an mountain at the back, looks ugly. Ok, it is a logo, but Montblanc can do better.
For many years, IWC have had a partnership with Swiss airline JU-AIR who have the Junkers JU-52 aircraft and keep it flying in pristine condition attending air shows and other prestigious events.
Plane is nice on the caseback. If I got nothing nice to say, I’ll zip it..that’s my style.
Someone who attends a watch event, and instead of buying first-hand, turns to the used market on chrono24 to buy a watch from that brand. I really don’t have a word about people like that except to shake my head. Reminds me of Mr Bean.
