In this insightful post, ripper444 shares his experience with the IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XVIII 'Le Petit Prince' on a bracelet, highlighting its exceptional comfort and engineering. His detailed observations spark a discussion on IWC's bracelet quality, movement choices, and the model's current availability, offering valuable perspectives for both new and seasoned collectors.
So this is not my first rodeo with this particular watch BUT it is my first for an IWC bracelet. What? That’s right. This is the best bracelet from a comfort to design to engineering that I have ever tried. I also think this changed the look of this piece. Overall I prefer the ETA/SELLITA time and date over what Richmond group mass produces and calls in-house.
Also is the le petite prince discontinued? I do not see it on their site.

Key Points from the Discussion
- The IWC bracelet on the 'Le Petit Prince' is noted for its superior comfort and finish, with speculation that IWC may outsource its production to the same manufacturer as A. Lange & Söhne, given similarities to the Odysseus bracelet.
- There's a distinction in bracelet finishing between older ETA-powered IWC models, which featured perlage on the clasp underside and fully brushed links, and newer models like the 'Le Petit Prince' which have brushed links with polished center sections.
- The IWC bracelet is considered more comfortable for everyday wear than those from Grand Seiko and Omega Speedmaster, which some collectors find less appealing.
- The IWC Pilot's Watch gained significant recognition after its appearance in the 2001 film 'Vanilla Sky,' contributing to its enduring appeal among enthusiasts.
- The 'Le Petit Prince' edition of the IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XVIII appears to be discontinued, as it is no longer listed on IWC's official website.
- The current 'Le Petit Prince' model does not feature a quick-change strap option, though it is speculated that IWC might introduce this upgrade in future iterations.
