A magnificent watch. From the dial side nothing hints at this outstanding movement.
Not so well known as George Daniels, but important just the same. I am happy to say I met him, about 20 years ago now. We talked cars and watches and wine on a summer afternoon in a Swiss garden. You might recognize some of the other watchmakers in the pictures. Derek with Keri. I hate to send people away (however briefly) but if you want to know more about him look at this nice biographical article: DEREK PRATT
Joke aside I like the contrast between the fairly restrained dial and gorgeous back.
Another fun note about Pratt: The Charles Frodsham wristwatch owes its extraordinary choice of escapement to a helpful suggestion by Derek Pratt (he was good friends of the owners of Frodsham, as was Daniels). Edit: Oh, I see this is discussed in the excellent article linked to (dear reader, go check that out if you haven't!).
Dial by Josh Shapiro.
Not only this watch is so beautiful and rare but even much more than that when you know the watchmaker behind it and the whole background! You also made my day with this nice series of pics of our friends. I could recognize several but not all…
