In the world of independent watchmaking, personalization options often present collectors with fascinating dilemmas. Author beerstyle shares his thoughtful decision-making process behind his Grönefeld 1941 Remontoire, specifically his choice to prioritize the rose gold case upgrade over a bespoke Kari Voutilainen dial. His insights offer a valuable perspective on balancing aesthetic desires with horological appreciation and perceived value.

when the option came to personalize this watch with a Kari dial, I actually turned it down. I personally felt it was too expensive and opted instead to go for the Rose gold case, a 5k Euros upgrade from steel. I felt this was a excellent bargain. My line of thought was simple, you buy a Gronefeld first and foremost for the amazing movement. Hence I ended up with a piece unique plain grey dial. I sometimes have regrets when I see some Kari dials on this watch, but I thought, what the heck, I already got a kari dial on the Armin Strom hahaha.

Absolutely amazing watch!

And to my taste, this dial fits the personality of the watch better than the guilloché Kari dial.
