For the 20th Anniversary of the Grand Seiko 9S mechanical movement family three new watches (platinum, rose gold and steel) with the Special and VFA ratings are about to be launched. Being a steel kind of guy, I am especially excited about the SBGH267. While waiting for more than just the preliminary press photos I felt it right to enjoy its direct ancestor, my beloved SBGH035.

Having had it for almost 2,5 years I can say I am as smitten now as when I first got it. It truly lives up to its Special rating with daily deviations below 0,8 seconds and the case, dial and hands / indices finishing is simply superb at the price level.

In addition it is fairly robust - if you change straps it’s not averse to a swim or other challenges of daily life. Speaking of which, going for an after market strap has made the deploant clasp much more comfortable, as it sits more correctly.

So it will be a tall order for the new generation SBGH267 to surpass it but knowing GS, they’re at least in it with a fighting chance smile

Have a nice Seiko Saturday, all!

I am considering the SBGV 238, a quartz limited edition of 600 piece, and maybe more possibly Hi-Beat mechancial, I am stuck with the GS fever

Best regards, Baxter

Once you get infected, it’s incurable :)

I think it goes the same way with all of us Interesting choices, for sure. A GS quartz is almost a must - they are so scarily accurate and offer the same level of finishing as the mechanical ones. Below my SBGX097, off by less than a second a year so far.
