Horologically_minded shares the exciting acquisition of their first Grand Seiko, the SBGA103 limited edition, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1964 'Self-Dater' model. This post highlights the watch's impressive 9R15 Spring Drive movement and exceptional Zaratsu finishing.
And here it is, my first Grand Seiko. The sbga103 limited edition was launched to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the GS 1964 'Self-Dater' model.
Sporting a 9R15 'super' Spring Drive rated to a mind-boggling +-10 seconds a month, its Zaratsu mirror finish is second to none.
This is not just my first GS, it is also the first watch I've bought without seeing in the metal before. Why would I take such a risk? Only because we have such awesome people in our community.
When one of the Purists based in Singapore knew that I was curious about the size of the watch, he helpfully (proactively, without my asking) took comparison photos of the watch side by side with a Rolex sub - both on the table and on his wrist. That immediately dispelled all my doubts about size and I ordered the watch with full confidence.
So here are a few pics to celebrate my new acquisition, along with a big shout out to Semper Fidelis for his kindness!
Merry Christmas everyone and happy holidays!

P.S. The Singapore-based purists group now accounts for 4/500 of this watch!

And be sure to share your thoughts with us here on the Seiko forum. Cheers, Cazalea
Beyond its insane accuracy, the bracelet is also surprisingly comfortable.
I really admire this reference and itβs blue counterpart. Enjoy!
Really cool to have had the help from another PuristS to finalise your decision. Best wishes Alkiro
Looking wonderful I have to say Great first GS and quite confident it will not be the last
But not like that makes a huge difference
