Hello friends ☀️

Today we continue talking about NEO-vintage Cushion case designs from GP from 1999-2005

We have seen pics of my other cushion cases Ref 2498 and 2499 with the gullioche dials. We have also looked at the ref 2598 “military” black dial. Do a search on my other posts to see them if you like.

Here we see the reference 2598 Ivory dial.

About 850 pieces made from circa 1999 to 2001 in a limited production. 38 mm case diameter.

Notice that the bi-compax sub-registers do not partially eat into any numbers. They have completely replaced the 3 and 9. A detail that I like.

These numbers are applied and there is no lume. A more classic vintage look compared to the black dial.

There are two variants of the polished vs the brushed satin finish on the lugs. The one I have is the polished lug variant.

My brother has the satin brushed finished variant and I have included some pics of it here with a black box around it.

Another interesting note is that the case back is engraved with 1970 in mine. It was first named the Vintage 1960 and the initial casebacks have Vintage 1960 on the caseback. The heritage Dept at GP then decided that this was more of an homage to watches from the 1970s and changed it to say Vintage 1970. Both are cool to have. I was born in 1970 so this one is an extra bonus for me. 😊

My brother’s has the 1960 engraved on the caseback. He was born in 1966 but close enough 😊

For those of you considering a lovely and collectable piece from GP that is neo-vintage, this is a good one to look for.

They are not as expensive as some of the others as they are yet to be discovered. They were only in the GP catalogs from 1999 to 2001 so I suspect that many today do not know about them to search on chrono24 and such.

They are lovely little gems to have. 38 mm case diameter and they can look good on a variety of wrists sizes.

I do hope that these posts serve to highlight the TREMENDOUS value in these neo vintage pieces bring to the table … and to own a GP which is quite rare on top of it.

Condition is everything and I would like to point out to those that are worried about getting a neo vintage watch. These are not vintage, they are neo vintage and they are about 20 years old. But look at the condition of these and you will see that you fears may not be well founded.

As always, do comment and also ask questions. I’m happy to help where I can.

Do you have a preference … polished vs satin?

What about 1970 vs 1960 on the caseback?

About the Patek Philippe Grand Complications Ref. 2499

The Patek Philippe Reference 2499 is a highly significant perpetual calendar chronograph, representing a pivotal model in the brand's history of complicated wristwatches. It succeeded the Reference 1518 and introduced a larger case diameter and updated aesthetic, establishing a design language that would influence subsequent perpetual calendar chronographs from Patek Philippe for decades. The reference was produced in four distinct series, each with subtle variations in dial layout, pusher style, and case construction.

This reference typically features a case crafted from precious metals, most commonly yellow gold, though examples in rose gold and platinum are known. The case diameter is generally 37.5mm, housing a manual-wind movement, specifically the caliber 13''' Q. This movement integrates a perpetual calendar mechanism with a chronograph function, offering indications for day, date, month, leap year, and moon phases. The crystal is typically acrylic for earlier series and sapphire for later iterations.

The 2499 is highly sought after by collectors due to its rarity, complexity, and historical importance. It is considered a benchmark for vintage complicated Patek Philippe watches and represents the evolution of the perpetual calendar chronograph from the mid-20th century. The variations between the four series provide distinct collecting opportunities, with each series possessing unique characteristics that appeal to different connoisseurs.

I like these cushion case watches. And of course I would go with the 1960 engraving as this is my birth year!

About 1,000 made of the 9012 according to an old post by Peter CDE. In steel, yellow, pink, white gold with a few dial colors. I haven’t found the variant I’m looking for yet. Also a bit cautious about servicing costs for the retrrapante should then need arise. This is the white gold version. Pic from the internet. Looks similar to the 2598. It’s a highly modified valjoux 7750. 3 to 4 times the cost of the 2598.

Strongly beaten up case,no box and papers : nothing that I would want. But,who knows, maybe one day I will discover a piece with full set , in good condition and at a fair price. Until then I will save up money for my dream GP : a three bridges tourbillon!

as there are three different listings from Japan. The one I saw had a nice case. Lack of Box and papers has never bothered me much. A nice to have only. But that’s me. Anyway, different strokes for different folks. 😊👍🏻 A 3 bridges would be an awesome add to the collection indeed☀️
