He meticulously highlights the subtle yet significant design variations and historical nuances that make this reference a compelling acquisition for collectors. His detailed comparison of the polished versus brushed lug variants, alongside the intriguing caseback engravings, provides invaluable context for understanding GP's neo-vintage era.

The Patek Philippe Reference 2499 is a highly significant perpetual calendar chronograph, representing a pivotal model in the brand's history of complicated wristwatches. It succeeded the Reference 1518 and introduced a larger case diameter and updated aesthetic, establishing a design language that would influence subsequent perpetual calendar chronographs from Patek Philippe for decades. The reference was produced in four distinct series, each with subtle variations in dial layout, pusher style, and case construction.
This reference typically features a case crafted from precious metals, most commonly yellow gold, though examples in rose gold and platinum are known. The case diameter is generally 37.5mm, housing a manual-wind movement, specifically the caliber 13''' Q. This movement integrates a perpetual calendar mechanism with a chronograph function, offering indications for day, date, month, leap year, and moon phases. The crystal is typically acrylic for earlier series and sapphire for later iterations.
The 2499 is highly sought after by collectors due to its rarity, complexity, and historical importance. It is considered a benchmark for vintage complicated Patek Philippe watches and represents the evolution of the perpetual calendar chronograph from the mid-20th century. The variations between the four series provide distinct collecting opportunities, with each series possessing unique characteristics that appeal to different connoisseurs.
I like these cushion case watches. And of course I would go with the 1960 engraving as this is my birth year!
About 1,000 made of the 9012 according to an old post by Peter CDE. In steel, yellow, pink, white gold with a few dial colors. I haven’t found the variant I’m looking for yet. Also a bit cautious about servicing costs for the retrrapante should then need arise. This is the white gold version. Pic from the internet. Looks similar to the 2598. It’s a highly modified valjoux 7750. 3 to 4 times the cost of the 2598.
Your collection yet. There is one on c24 at a very good price. Just saw it today from japan.
Strongly beaten up case,no box and papers : nothing that I would want. But,who knows, maybe one day I will discover a piece with full set , in good condition and at a fair price. Until then I will save up money for my dream GP : a three bridges tourbillon!
as there are three different listings from Japan. The one I saw had a nice case. Lack of Box and papers has never bothered me much. A nice to have only. But that’s me. Anyway, different strokes for different folks. 😊👍🏻 A 3 bridges would be an awesome add to the collection indeed☀️
Taken with my humble iphone.
