Blomman Mr Blue uncovers a fascinating piece of horological history, presenting evidence that Girard-Perregaux served as the official watch for Capital Airlines in the early 1950s. His post highlights vintage advertisements and documents, focusing on the Gyromatic model promoted during this era. This historical context offers a unique glimpse into the brand's past partnerships and the watches that defined them.
Friends,
This Thursday we go back to 1951. This is the earliest year I have found proof of Girard-Perregaux being the Official watch of Capital Airlines!
Not sure the exact year when GP became the Official watch of the airline, but I have documents showing that at least in 1951 and 1952 they were.
During this time the Gyromatic was the watch promoted.
Maybe the pilots had a Gyromatic reference 6787…?
A sure way to date this document: July 2nd 1951.
In 1961 Capital Airlines was merged into United Airlines.
Fun facts you may find while collecting watch related documents….

But prepare to get charmed.... I typical Dandy watch! ;) Best Blomman
Love that one. The contrast between the simple but very class dial with this case is just mouthwatering. Best, Nicolas
Some real treasures! :) Best Blomman
