Jlux challenges traditional collector norms by embracing a solar-powered quartz watch, the Frederique Constant Classics Moneta Solarmetre. His post details the practical appeal and refined aesthetics of this 'grab and go' timepiece, sparking a discussion on the evolving perception of quartz in luxury watch circles. This article explores how modern solar technology is bridging the gap between convenience and horological appreciation.
Been thinking for a while that a quartz powered "grab and go" watch would be very convenient.
Battery powered quartz watches are however a no-go for me and therefore my interest shifted more to solar powered movements.
The market for solar powered quartz watches is mostly dominated by Seiko and Citizen but none of their watches is really to my liking.
Very recently however Frederique Constant introduced the Classics Moneta Solarmetre with a LJP solar quartz movement (based on the Citizen technology) that raised my interest.
Well proportioned (39x8.5 mm) ,elegant and finished to the high standards that FC is known for these watches are exactly what I was looking for.
The technical specifications are outstanding : when fully charged the watch will have power for 10 months and a 1 minute light exposure equates to one day of power reserve !

A few dial variants are available and my choice is for the burgundy dial, although I would rather call it a plum color.
These light translucent dials are no longer distinguishable from classic dials !

The watch comes with a leather and milanaise style bracelet of which I largely prefer the latter and which is of a very good quality.

And finally a wrist shot.
I has to be noted that the coin edged inner bezel is covered by the sapphire !
Thanks for looking,
Gerard
