In a captivating post, WatchProSite member lim.bely presents a compelling dilemma: choosing between two horological masterpieces from F.P. Journe – the Chronomètre Optimum and the Calendrier. This discussion delves into the nuanced considerations collectors face when curating a collection, especially when confronted with the prospect of making a difficult decision to accommodate a new acquisition. Readers will gain insight into the unique appeal of each reference and the personal factors that influence such choices.

The F.P. Journe Chronomètre Souverain represents the foundational timepiece within the brand's Souveraine collection. This reference demonstrates the manufacture's approach to precision timekeeping through manual winding mechanics, positioned as a core offering in F.P. Journe's lineup.
The 40mm case is executed in 18k rose gold with a fixed bezel configuration. A sapphire crystal protects the silver dial, while the manual-winding caliber 1304 movement provides an 80-hour power reserve. The timepiece features 30-meter water resistance and is paired with a leather strap. Production commenced in 2000.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking F.P. Journe's mechanical execution in a fundamental three-hand configuration. The substantial power reserve and manual winding caliber position this model for enthusiasts who appreciate traditional watchmaking approaches within the Souveraine series framework.
Two icons from FPJ. And certainly the De Bethune and PP are great watches too. Let the one You wear the least go. Big welcome here. Please tell us a little about yourself and your Watch passion. Regards Christian
For me c.o. is an epitome complication of fpj.
Calendrier is wonderful but the Optimum is pure Journe
Welcome here ! Call it an entry with 4 top iconic watches! As Christian suggests if you really have to, let the one you were the least go. The other ones must make your heart beat faster when you look at them, so they are the keepers
Hi all, thank you for the kind words, tough call! Was thinking of purchasing a Patek 5740, and I have been set a 5, maximum 6 Watch limit by my C.H.O I was thinking since there are 2 Journes… tough call… they all make my heart beat faster!
5740 isn’t a bad choice either for sure 🤷♂️ But… you said the limit of your CHO (😉 I like that « CHO » 👍 she must be happy) is 5 to 6 so with these 4 you are not out of bounds unless you are hiding other keepers 😉
