Jay (Eire) initiates a compelling discussion on the F.P. Journe Chronomètre Bleu, a watch he considers his enduring favorite despite its significant market hype. His post delves into the watch's intrinsic qualities—its versatility, ideal sizing, tantalum case, and iconic dial—while also highlighting its embodiment of Journe's pursuit of precision. This article explores why the CB resonates so deeply with collectors, examining its design, wearability, and the evolving perception shaped by its meteoric rise in the secondary market.

The Chronometre Bleu, the ultimate in hype unfortunately.  Despite that this watch remains my most favourite.

It was a fast favourite for me because it was so versatile, because of the size (both diameter and relative slimness of the case), the easy nature of the tantalum, and of course because of that dial.

And last but not least, as our moderator Christian has shared regarding his own Chronometre Souervain over the years, the CB also represents the purest form of Journe’s singular quest for precision.  (It’s just that the CB most of this time gets defined first by its dial, and then the case material, and then the original “entry level price. And then finally it’s the calibre).

About the F.P. Journe Chronomètre Souverain Ref. chronometre

The F.P. Journe Chronomètre Souverain represents the foundational timepiece within the brand's Souveraine collection. This reference demonstrates the manufacture's approach to precision timekeeping through manual winding mechanics, positioned as a core offering in F.P. Journe's lineup.

The 40mm case is executed in 18k rose gold with a fixed bezel configuration. A sapphire crystal protects the silver dial, while the manual-winding caliber 1304 movement provides an 80-hour power reserve. The timepiece features 30-meter water resistance and is paired with a leather strap. Production commenced in 2000.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking F.P. Journe's mechanical execution in a fundamental three-hand configuration. The substantial power reserve and manual winding caliber position this model for enthusiasts who appreciate traditional watchmaking approaches within the Souveraine series framework.

You a summing it up perfectly. It’s sometimes annoys me that it has become so overhyped. Well, so many watches have these days. I think your picture males me go to the bank later this week to get mine out.

The only downside is the recent hype. I used to wear it more often — to the office and to casual events & dinners without thinking. It’s still relatively under the radar, but I sometimes find myself pausing to think about where I might be going on a particular day and if it’s worth the risk of wearing.

I’m not suggesting we stop posting about the CB but we generate the hype when we do. Now:let me help. Oops!

It’s a great watch, and it was my daily and my travel watch (because it was so versatile and it was under the radar). It’s no longer either of those.

Not the same strap, mine is a turquoise, which would look great on that CS too. You picked a great contemporary version of the CS.
