I had seen them in pictures, but when I visited the Paris F.P.Journe Boutique recently I was able to view two delightful pieces from this collection.

Firstly there are mother of pearl (MOP) Boutique Editions of the Chronometre Souveraine, the Octa Automatic Lune and the Octa Automatic Reserve in either rose gold or platinum cases. The RG-cased watches have a rose coloured MOP hour circle with a RG centre decorated with clous de Paris guilloche. The Pt-cased watches have a light-blue MOP hour circle with a silver guilloched centre. Both have blued Arabic numerals and blued hands.

Both the blue and rose coloured watches have a very different aesthetic, and as with most Journe pieces, they look better in real life than in any pictures I can take. The MOP has wonderful depth in sunlight. The blue is quite subtle and matches perfectly with the ‘blue’ hue of the platinum case. The dark blue sky in the moonphase adds further depth to the colour palette.

The RG watch has an antique look, like an old French mantle clock. It has a charm all its own, and it is great to see different watches using similar materials to very different effect.

The 40mm Pt Octa Automatic Lune and 38mm RG Chronometre Souveraine versions are shown here.

Perhaps more for the evening, particularly the platinum-blue version, but these are very distinctive and beautiful pieces. And as you can see the crocodile straps have been perfectly chosen to complement the dials.

About the F.P. Journe Chronomètre Souverain Ref. chronometre

The F.P. Journe Chronomètre Souverain represents the foundational timepiece within the brand's Souveraine collection. This reference demonstrates the manufacture's approach to precision timekeeping through manual winding mechanics, positioned as a core offering in F.P. Journe's lineup.

The 40mm case is executed in 18k rose gold with a fixed bezel configuration. A sapphire crystal protects the silver dial, while the manual-winding caliber 1304 movement provides an 80-hour power reserve. The timepiece features 30-meter water resistance and is paired with a leather strap. Production commenced in 2000.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking F.P. Journe's mechanical execution in a fundamental three-hand configuration. The substantial power reserve and manual winding caliber position this model for enthusiasts who appreciate traditional watchmaking approaches within the Souveraine series framework.

They are not for everyday ...

but so are clothes like a dinner-jacket as well. For special occassions I would love to own one of these. You (or at least me) don´t need them that often, but when you wear them it is just perfect MOP is great for special occassions, but it doesn´t work for all watches. Manual winding is a must in that case. Thanks for sharing, Andrew. Oliver

I love mother-of-pearl, ...

... especially when applied decently (and tastefully) as in this case. These watches are real beauties. Regards, Marcus

Those call to mind...

...the black MOP Resonance. MOP can be a tricky addition to a "man's" watch, but oh, that black Resonance.... If only we had a Journe forum. Cheers, pplater.
