In a community often focused on mechanical horology, rnaden challenges conventional wisdom by embracing the F.P. Journe Élégante 40, a quartz timepiece. His post explores how this watch, initially an unexpected choice, has profoundly resonated with him, prompting a re-evaluation of what makes a watch truly special and potentially an 'exit watch' for a seasoned collector. This discussion highlights the Élégante's unique appeal and its place in a high-end collection.

The F.P. Journe Élégante represents the brand's entry into electro-mechanical timekeeping, distinguished by its hybrid movement technology within the Élégante series. This reference marks a departure from traditional mechanical movements in the F.P. Journe collection.
The 40mm titanium case houses the caliber 1210 electro-mechanical movement, paired with a silver dial and fixed bezel. Construction features include sapphire crystal and a rubber strap, with water resistance rated to 30 meters. The titanium case material provides a lightweight alternative to traditional precious metal constructions.
This reference appeals to collectors interested in F.P. Journe's exploration of alternative movement technologies beyond purely mechanical calibers. The electro-mechanical movement and titanium construction position this piece as a distinct offering within the brand's portfolio, catering to those seeking contemporary technical approaches in independent watchmaking. Production commenced in 2014.

The elusive “Exit Watch” - at this point of time, I’m actually wishing that there is such a thing. I find myself getting tired of the constant re-editions and marketing bullshit and find myself sticking to wearing just one watch for weeks, and even months, at a time. This hasn’t shown signs of tapering off, so if I can find that one....and just have one watch to wear everyday and everywhere, this might just be it! We will see. Like you and Sham1, there are many skeptics! LOL! Me included! Richar
Enjoy what I feel will not be your exit watch
In the meantime, I’m enjoying this one - and I’m pretty certain that I will be for a long time to come. I seldom get this feeling on day 2 of owning a watch, and the only three that has generated this feeling are still with me after all this while.
I like to think almost all my current watches give me a similar feeling and I look forward to seeing the FP Journe at our next GTG!
