Journe Chronomètre à Résonance, specifically debating between the new 2019 model with a 24-hour dial, an older version, or waiting for the upcoming 2020 release. This post highlights the critical decisions collectors face when a significant reference is being discontinued and re-envisioned, especially concerning its aesthetic evolution and potential future value.

Hi all, I have an opportunity to purchase the new Journe Resonance with the 24 hour dial at 9 o’clock.  I have read all I can about the movement and how resonance works.  The watch has been in production for 18 years and is being discontinued in 2020 with a last run for 2019 bringing back the 24 hour dial.  After that there will be a new watch with a new movement.  My question is regarding buying the limited 2019 model, buying an older model at much less or waiting for the new 2020 version, of course knowing no one has a crystal ball about the 2020 version.  FYI I’m leaning towards the 6N Red Gold on a bracelet so if there are opinions about the FPJ bracelets please voice them as well

I don’t know much about this watch except what I‘ve read today and need your help and wisdom to make the correct decision for my collection.  Will the last year (2019) be the one that is revered?  Would buying a used one that is really the same watch be just as good and possibly go up in value and them of course your opinions about possibilities for the new 2020 model.  Thanks in advance for your help...Jim

About the F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance Ref. resonance

The Chronomètre à Résonance represents F.P. Journe's entry in the Souveraine collection, distinguished by its resonance complication. This reference utilizes the principle of resonance between two independent escapements to enhance chronometric precision.

The 40mm case is crafted in 18k rose gold with a fixed bezel and sapphire crystal. The silver dial houses the manual-winding caliber 1499 movement, offering a 42-hour power reserve. Water resistance is rated to 30 meters, and the watch is completed with a leather strap.

This reference appeals to collectors focused on haute horlogerie complications and independent watchmaking. The resonance mechanism positions this piece as a technical showcase within F.P. Journe's manual-winding offerings. Production began in 2000, establishing this as part of the brand's contemporary catalog for collectors seeking advanced chronometric functions.

Hmm.. there is also a black label 24hr version correct?

Do you like black..? It really depend whether you like the 24hr dial or not. If not, just wait till new version kick in and compare the two model and see which one you like. If you like the 2019 version better than the 2020 then you can always try to get it preown in the market or maybe through Journe Patrimoine. Regarding this value question.. I try not to go into this topic.. but i think the early yellow dial, tokyo and the Pisa are some nice ones.

This would be the first RG bracelet

I’ve ever owned, I mostly think they are to ostentatious, this one is very thin and not so much a statement but seems elegant...Jim
