Jay (Eire) initiates a compelling discussion on the F.P. Journe Chronomètre Bleu, questioning the factors behind its meteoric rise in demand. This thread explores the blend of intrinsic watchmaking excellence, market dynamics, and cultural shifts that transformed the CB from an insider's secret to a highly coveted timepiece with extensive waiting lists.

The F.P. Journe Chronomètre Souverain represents the foundational timepiece within the brand's Souveraine collection. This reference demonstrates the manufacture's approach to precision timekeeping through manual winding mechanics, positioned as a core offering in F.P. Journe's lineup.
The 40mm case is executed in 18k rose gold with a fixed bezel configuration. A sapphire crystal protects the silver dial, while the manual-winding caliber 1304 movement provides an 80-hour power reserve. The timepiece features 30-meter water resistance and is paired with a leather strap. Production commenced in 2000.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking F.P. Journe's mechanical execution in a fundamental three-hand configuration. The substantial power reserve and manual winding caliber position this model for enthusiasts who appreciate traditional watchmaking approaches within the Souveraine series framework.
it offers 'more' to the price esp. different material, gold movement & a beautiful dial... also the fact that anyone who try to buy a steel sports watch have to go in the secondary market to get one (with a price closing towards CB) - people started switching... one another point where i think FPJ producing 600 to 1000 watch per year with few model lines crossed the 'breaking point/critical mass' which is normally not possible with the small production of independents. i feel it is the same
I bought mine 2.5y ago before the prices went relentlessly up, and stood at the sidelines in wonder and stupefaction My personal guesses why the CB suddenly went up in popularity: 1. Versatile watch , can be casual or dressy, many strap options 2. Unusual tantalum case, sized just right at 39mm 3. Blue suddenly becoming a popular color again in the past 3y or so 4. Not too crazily expensive (then) 5. That wonderful dial! But hey, what do I know... for all I know the price has been driven up by a
The Journe Illuminati.
1. The Journe Identity: where FPJ makes his mark as a brand 2. The Journe Conspiracy: where a secret cabal hoards FPJ's timepieces, and manipulates the resale/auction market 3. The Journe Illuminati: where the secret identities of the cabal members are unmasked Maybe even a movie series starring Matt Damon as our hero! ;-)
I'm in! I'll have the first screenplay ready for you in 5 days.
