WatchProSite member WatchFan1 shares his excitement over acquiring a rare F.P. Journe Octa Quantième Perpétuel 40mm. His post highlights the unique aesthetic of the discontinued cloverleaf dial, which he argues embodies classic Journe design more effectively than current production models. This article delves into the specific features that make this reference a coveted piece among collectors.

The F.P. Journe Octa collection represents François-Paul Journe's systematic approach to creating a unified family of complications sharing a common movement architecture. Introduced in the early 2000s, the Octa line demonstrates Journe's philosophy of technical rationality, where each complication builds upon the same base caliber 1300 movement platform. This particular example appears to be an Octa Reserve de Marche or similar variant, showcasing the collection's characteristic large date display and power reserve indicator integrated into the distinctive ruthenium dial.
The technical execution reveals Journe's commitment to horological orthodoxy, with the 22-carat rose gold rotor visible through exhibition casebacks powering a movement that prioritizes longevity over visual spectacle. The ruthenium-treated brass dial creates the signature deep gray surface that has become synonymous with contemporary F.P. Journe, while the rose gold case maintains the brand's preference for noble metals. The Arabic numeral chapter ring and blued steel hands reference classical pocket watch design, yet the overall composition feels thoroughly modern in its asymmetrical complication layout.
Within the independent watchmaking landscape, F.P. Journe occupies a unique position as both innovative and commercially successful. The Octa collection has proven particularly significant for collectors seeking entry into the Journe universe, offering the brand's distinctive aesthetic and technical philosophy at a more accessible price point than the Souveraine line. Recent market activity has shown sustained appreciation for clean examples, particularly those featuring the ruthenium dial treatment that preceded the brand's transition to solid gold dials in later productions.
I love the wild strap. I agree on the clover leaf ring decoration. Maybe not the natural way of framing things but it gives this reference much charm. Thanks for sharing, and congrats!
But this strap takes the prize! This strap was specific to this boutique piece, or it was included by the previous owner?
Frankly, it looks really classy with the black strap as it visually ties beautifully with the dial. The wild custom JR strap was just a nice bonus and was includee with the watch in addition to the black one.
And the strap is wow. I love it. Huge congratulations 🎈🎉🍾!
Huge congratulations, Miloš. 🍀 The steel frame of the clover center is an exquisite feature which gives the dial that extra complexity. I also love the mix of steel and rose gold. From a technical standpoint the correctors below the lugs are also a great feature, allowing for a very clean case. And as others have said this strap is wonderful. Congratulations again. Best, Emmanuel
