ChristianDK's original post celebrates the 20th anniversary of the F.P. Journe Tokyo Boutique, a landmark establishment that defied traditional distribution models. This retrospective highlights François-Paul Journe's pioneering vision in opening his own branded boutique in 2003, a move that significantly shaped the brand's global expansion. The article delves into the unique design and philosophy behind this iconic location, which set the precedent for F.P. Journe's worldwide presence.

At a time when watch brands favoured retailers for their distribution, François-Paul Journe chose not to follow convention. He was the first to open a subsidiary and a boutique under his own name in Aoyama, in central Tokyo.

Just a stone's throw from the Nezu Museum, in the Omotesando district, the Boutique F.P.Journe Tokyo opened its doors in September 2003 inside “La Collezione”, the work of Tadao Ando, the architect of spirituality. The layout was entirely imagined by Seihachi Sagawa and François-Paul Journe, each element having been meticulously chosen to create a singular place reflecting its philosophy. For the first time in the world in a watchmaking boutique, there's a bar where collectors and enthusiasts can meet “as if at home” for a coffee and a chat about their passion and favourite subject.

This place was an important milestone in the brand's history and the starting point for its worldwide expansion. Today, 12 F.P.Journe Boutiques and Maisons welcome our collectors, from Hong Kong to Geneva, from Paris to New York. To thank the customers of its Boutiques, François-Paul Journe decided to create the Tokyo Boutique Anniversaire Series in their honour.

It says on their IG post that this will be “the last” of brands limited series.

What does that mean?? I’m worried… about the future of one of my favorite brands.

Why worried?

It's not like the brand is closing its doors...😉 watchesbysjx.com

The last limited series sounds ominous…

No special dials, no LEs.

I think this was announced a while ago. And is consistent with the announcement ending the Boutique editions too.

Sorry. But tomorrow’s Friday ! And a long weekend this side of the pond.

More seriously, I too am somewhat disappointed. I had intended to buy a Nacre Dial CS. Journe, as he has stated numerous times in the last while, is focusing on more complicated pieces. This together with the end of special dials and Boutique editions will mean the end of Journe ownership or aspirational ownership for many.
