Clueless_Collector's original post sparks a fascinating discussion about the practical application of high-rated dive watches. He questions the true utility of 300m-rated timepieces in actual underwater environments, particularly concerning lume performance. This article synthesizes community insights into the realities of dive watch use beyond the desk.

I wonder how many owners actually wear these 300m-rated watches into the abyss?

If so, how do they fair in terms of viability of time and the lume down there?

Interestingly for Omega, one has He escape valve and one doesn’t, both rated same.

I know I wore them from outdoors and then back indoors and lume is bright but then fades. Do they actually work deep in the sea?

A quick check on the lume and they last 20min or longer but not that supercharged bright like the moment you went indoors, so I guess it’s ok for 10-12min of diving.

I wonder if there are specs for such brightness?

Anyways, back to desk diving tomorrow.

DIN 8306 (European requirements) are that the lume remains visible from a distance of 25cm (a little less than a foot) in pitch darkness. Not sure how long that needs to remain the case, but I’m gonna try to find out.

It’s also subjective if one’s eyesight is not perfect low light situation.

And I’m not that resourceful; I just read the brochure that I came with my DIN 8306 compliant Sinn U50 😁

Totally have to buy only from original owners or someone you know.
