Christianch's journey with the De Bethune DB25 Starry Varius offers a compelling narrative on the enduring allure of specific timepieces. His decision to reacquire this rose-gold marvel, despite a previous 'one in, one out' strategy, underscores the unique emotional and aesthetic connection collectors can form with exceptional watches. This article delves into why the DB25 Starry Varius holds such a distinguished place in the independent watchmaking landscape, as seen through Christianch's personal experience and the community's shared admiration.

Hello everyone,

It’s been nearly two years since I brought home a rose-gold De Bethune DB25 Starry Varius—my original post is still available here

Just shy of its first anniversary, however, I parted with it to finance another purchase, following the familiar “one in, one out” approach. The replacement had plenty of wrist time and still gives me great pleasure, yet nothing else provided the DB25’s unique blend of subtlety, whimsy, and rarity.

Fast-forward a year and, thankfully, the stars have aligned once more. I couldn’t track down my original watch, but I managed to secure a fresh allocation, and the new Starry Varius arrived this week. I’m delighted to see it back in my collection—so here are a few quick photos to celebrate its return.

What have I learnt? “Less is more” is a sound principle for keeping a collection sensible—but sometimes, “more really is more!”

How do you like it?

Christian

About the De Bethune DB25 Ref. DB25

De Bethune DB25 Reference DB25

The DB25 represents De Bethune's entry in the 44.5mm manual-wind category, distinguished by its silver dial configuration within the DB25 series. This reference launched in 2006 and continues the brand's approach to contemporary haute horlogerie complications.

The 44.5mm case is crafted from 18k white gold with a fixed bezel and sapphire crystal. Water resistance extends to 30 meters. The manual-winding caliber DB2105 movement provides a substantial 120-hour power reserve. The watch features a leather strap attachment.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking De Bethune's technical approach to timekeeping in a precious metal case. The extended power reserve and manual-wind operation position it for enthusiasts who appreciate hands-on interaction with their timepieces. The 44.5mm sizing places it in contemporary proportions within the independent watchmaking segment.
