Cazalea humorously presents a digital clock designed for individuals experiencing memory loss, or simply advancing in years, highlighting its unique feature of fully spelled-out days and months. This post playfully explores the intersection of practical design and the challenges of cognitive decline, even for seasoned watch collectors.

As regular readers know, I have a few too many watches and clocks. About 100 too many, according to my wife. But (as one does) I still keep looking. Today, as a public service, I am sharing a find that I know will electrify PuristS of all sorts. (Especially MTF and G99).

This clock looks perfectly normal to me - in fact, it's more appealing than most digital display clocks. But when I read the copy accompanying the illustration, I knew that would probably be ordering one.

What makes this DayClox Clock so unique is that both the DAY and the MONTH are fully spelled out!
  • People suffering from memory loss due to stroke, dementia, Alzheimer's (or just advancing years) may have difficulty processing abbreviated words.
  • Most clocks abbreviate the month & the day -- for example, November becomes NOV and February is FEB.
  • The same is true for days of the week - Wednesday is WED and Saturday as SAT.
This may be fine for some of the population, but for the rest of us, our loved ones with Dementia, Alzheimer's or simply advanced years, these abbreviations are too confusing to process.
  • This Day Clock displays complete words only, no abbreviations.
  • This Clock has a bold and clear display that is great for elderly or vision impaired.
  • The multi-language feature can be configured to display 1 of 8 languages - English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Polish, Dutch & Welsh.
  • Display can be configured with date then day (DECEMBER 9), or day then date (9 DECEMBER)
  • This quiet digital Calendar Day Clock has the clearest and easiest to read 8" display available
  • HDMI option allows you to plug it into any modern flat-screen television

This Clock has everything! It displays the full DAY, TIME and DATE and it's not just for people with memory loss or as a Dementia aid! -- Anyone can enjoy this wonderful clock!
It makes a great gift. It's sleek & contemporary design will look great anywhere in your home or office, sitting on your desk or counter or wall mounted so everyone can enjoy it.
NOTE: We do not recommend you mail our clocks to a dementia patient as it is too complex for them to set up for the first time by themselves.

(Originally founded in Ramsgate, Kent, DayClox is now based at Rhyl in North Wales. Contact them for Asian language variations.)

If the numbers and AM PM are too difficult for a loved one to process, there's one more clock option - the Day Cycle clock.
  • LCD screen clearly displays the DAY OF THE WEEK & cycle of the day with no abbreviations. Helps differentiate between day and night.
  • Each day is divided into 4 cycles, Morning, Afternoon, Evening & Night. No more confusion with AM and PM notations.
  • Actual time is not displayed. No confusing numbers.
  • Bright & Bold letters that are clear and easy to read from across the room.

I know I've been a bit tongue-in-cheek with this post, but I have also experienced these issues for some years with my mother.
We even went to the trouble to put lume on the hands so she could see the time when her lights were turned off at night.

I hope this provides some ideas for those whose family members are struggling with what we take for granted.

I'll say this for you = you are FAST to respond!

I hope you don't need the cognitive assistance these clocks provide. Or is it for billing clients as they sit in your office? Mike

Diolch yn fawr (Thank you very much)

Thanks for this information. Must check them out. My biggest surprise is that the company is in Rhyl, a small seaside town in North Wales. Not surprised that its a small Welsh town but that I was married in Rhyl; we have close family still living there but never heard of Day Clox. We never knew about this company in the High Street; we have not been in the High Street for years as its slowly dying with retail parks (US-called strip malls) opening in other towns nearby. Rhyl town council dropped
