At my hometown, there's only one hospital that is maintained by charity. I started contributing to this hospital almost a decade ago and continue to do this. I don't live there, I don't go there and I don't allow my name to be public. I just feel good with the work that I know they do with my contributions (yes, I have relatives there). Cheers
True, even a minor act of kindness can have great value in the eyes of another, and I can relate to your Lamborghini example. At age 10, I had a chance to sit in an Aston Martin Virage coupe at my town's annual "All British Car Show." That moment still is with me 23 years later, and it meant the world to me. As you say, Thomas, even small considerations - sharing part of this good life we lead - can mean so much to others. Best, Tim
So much so that I suspect that the notion of showing off their rides now overtakes the volunteers' sense of charity!!! Watch industry charities has alot of politics and also brand 'safe guarding' by making sure there are strong participation from donor clients, especially when it is open auctions where the hammered price is often used to reflect a brand's "market brand equity". On the whole, I will rather write a cheque, and or do volunteer work as a unknown. I also tend to "fo it" during season
I have a soft spot for those less fortunate little ones, so I concentrate there. Unfortunately, there is only so much one individual can do. There is way too much suffering and shortages in the world today.
Having known some of their employees and seen them in action, the people in MSF are amazing. OS delivers cleft pallet surgery to children in Africa & Asia. Plan sponsors individual children (and their communities) health & education in (mostly) Africa & Asia. Our company sponsors off-grid electricity projects in rural Africa. Our village raises £ & collects clothes for refugees. So many worthy causes!
A decade ago in my old hometown someone started the initiative to buy a van (8 passenger + wheelchairs) and drive elderly people without a car/taxi (budget) to cities nearby for the symbolic amount of € 1,- per ride so they can enjoy a nice day out / shopping in comfort. Now they have 2 or 3 vans riding around making old folks happy. So that’s a good cause I’ll support as long as I can. Furthermore local sports events for children. And the occasional cancer, ALS, you name it fundraiser.
