Mach, a discerning collector and active community member, shares his exclusive first impressions of Chopard's 2023 Watches & Wonders novelties. His detailed account, featuring the Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF, L.U.C 1860, and the captivating Alpine Eagle 41 XPS, offers a valuable, in-the-metal perspective for those considering these significant releases. Mach's experience also highlights the critical role of collector-boutique relationships in acquiring highly sought-after pieces.

After initially getting over the “sticker shock,” I contacted my SA and asked to be placed on the list for the Alpine Eagle 41 XPS. On Thursday, he said, “Geneva approved my request,” which is great news!!!👏👏👏 Although I didn’t realize this was so formal??? He said I can expect mine late this year / early next year, which is reasonable IMHO considering I have no prior purchase history. BUT this does highlight the fact that networking is so critical in this hobby since I’ve visited the boutiques multiple times over the years and have developed a relationship with my SA!
Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!🥂
Best,
Mark
The L.U.C 1860 reference is a notable offering within the L.U.C collection, distinguished by its focus on classical watchmaking principles and refined aesthetics. This particular model, introduced at Watches and Wonders 2023, represents a continuation of Chopard's commitment to high horology, emphasizing traditional craftsmanship and a discreet presentation. It is recognized for its balanced proportions and the integration of a finely finished movement, reflecting the brand's in-house manufacturing capabilities.
This reference features a case crafted from Lucent Steel, a proprietary alloy, measuring 36.5 mm in diameter. The watch is powered by the L.U.C 96.01-L automatic movement, which is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. This movement is equipped with a micro-rotor and offers a power reserve of approximately 65 hours. The dial is presented in a salmon color, complemented by a sapphire crystal on the front.
Appealing to collectors who value understated design and mechanical integrity, the L.U.C 1860 fits into the brand's lineup as a dress watch with significant horological merit. Its limited production and specific material choices contribute to its appeal among enthusiasts seeking a watch that combines traditional watchmaking with contemporary material science. The model is a testament to Chopard's ongoing development in its L.U.C range.
I am interested by the 8hz model and was curious to know the feeling on your wrist of the titanium. Since I like to feel a little bit of weight with my watches I always wonder how I would feel…
Like you, I like to feel some weight to my watches. Practically everyone that picked up the piece from the tray stated, “Oh, this must be titanium.” But I thought it felt great on the wrist. For lack of a better phrase, it didn’t feel like a plastic toy on the wrist! HAGWE!🥂
I recommend to try it on. I also like to feel some heft but wearing the AE titanium model is a comfortable and joyful experience too. Light but not flimsy and nothing is pinching.
Here is an example of another AE Titanium version.
