With a fifth consecutive victory, Porsche won the WEC constructor’s title in the World Endurance Championship 2015. It is now mathematically impossible for any other team to overtake them but the official results will not be declared until the end of the season.

After outstanding 1-2 victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and at all subsequent circuits in the series (NĂĽrbĂĽrgring, Circuit of the Americas, Fuji), the two Porsche 919 Hybrid race cars garnered the first two positions in Shanghai.

The FIA World Endurance Championship 2015 will end up on 21st November 2015 on the racetrack of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

In a race fraught with spin-offs, ignition trouble, torrential rain, collisions, safety cars and chasing from last place, the Porsche cars deliverd an incredible result.

With its success on the skid-pan racetrack, Porsche ran away with its leadership in the manufacturers’ and drivers’ championships, ahead of Audi and Toyota.

Porsche with Official Timing Partner Chopard are the 2015 WEC Champions, a new title to add to its historical record in endurance racing. Porsche won the title with 308 points followed by Audi (238) and Toyota (137). For Porsche it is the 13th constructors’ World Championship title in endurance racing and the first since 1986. Between 1964 and 1986 Porsche took twelve constructors’ titles in the former World Sportscar Championship. After 16 years away, Porsche returned as a team to endurance racing in 2014.

Here are some of the drivers' post-race comments in Shanghai:

Brendon Hartley – Porsche Team  #17:
“It was an interesting first lap and it was a question of how much boost we used, but I had a lot at the end of the lap. But there was a bit of contact halfway through the first lap. Other than that it was actually smooth sailing through the stints but it got tricky at the end of the second Full Course Yellow because a lot of water came down, and conditions were on the limit. All three of us today and the team made perfect calls, kept it on the road, looked after the car. To be part of this team and to get the Manufacturers’ Championship is great and I am completely honoured to be part of this team.”

Mark Webber – Porsche Team #17:
“I’ve been involved in some pretty big projects but this achievement is incredible,” said Webber after the race. “To come in to this level of racing and get the results we have had is really hard to produce these types of cars and this kind of performance week-in and week-out. Everyone at Weissach and everyone involved in the program from the start have had a great interpretation of the regulations and we have stuck to our guns. It is a big, big thing for Porsche, great for the brand and for us guys it’s a real blast.”

Marc Lieb – Porsche Team #18:
“It was unfortunate to have a spin in corner seven but I was just lucky not to get hit by any other cars really. The problem was that afterwards I couldn’t re-start the car so it was quite difficult. I was so close to Brendon (Hartley) at the start and then I got hit by Andre (Lotterer of AUDI) but we had a chat afterwards so all is clear with that and there are no worries at all. Then we were dead last but the Safety Car helped for sure and then it was just fighting back and fighting through. My team mates did a fantastic job as well so it was a good P2 position at the end.”

Chopard’s co-president, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele sent this message to the Porsche Motorsport WEC team:

“Chopard is very proud to be associated with the Porsche Team winning this years World Endurance Championship. We sincerely congratulate the drivers and all members of the team for this great achievement. This result is based on winning technology, hard work and full dedication."
