Mahesh's detailed comparison of the Cartier Tank Normale in platinum and yellow gold offers a valuable perspective on how material choices impact a watch's character and wearability. His insights into the platinum version's subtle versatility and the multi-curved sapphire's vintage appeal provide a compelling starting point for collectors considering this iconic reference. This article explores the nuances that make each version distinct, drawing on Mahesh's firsthand experience.

contrary to the yellow gold version, the platinum one is a tad versatile, monochromatic and could be worn easily without grabbing attention.

In modern terms, this is considered 'small watch' but I think it is quite refined and subtle.

the multi-curved sapphire is impressive, it adds character to the timepiece and brings on a vintage vibe.

Yellow gold version for comparison....

I love the platinum, it was a LE 100 pcs and of course I stood no chance to see one until now !

YG version is quite beautiful too, warm and very vintage in every aspect.

which one you prefer ?

Best,
mahesh.,

it caught scratches easily due to the pronounced bezel so it had to go. A lovely watch though. I preferred the yellow gold version to the platinum because of the contrasting colour of the blue hands on the gold version. If the platinum version had blue hands too, then, it would have gotten my vote

I prefer warmer metals but not a fan of the extra attention. I love the shape of the crystal, can't remember if they went for plexi or sapphire but it gives it a lovely vintage vibe.

I’ve always felt it wasn’t “special enough”. Obviously it’s a limited edition and priced accordingly, but the case shape is a little too similar every other tank - in the current line up, it closely resembles the tank LC and must, a little too close. Dial layout and handset are of course reminiscent of most other Cartiers. Many other brands have made similarly shaped watches in the past; vintage model from any holy trinity brand arguably offers better horology at a much better price. This is to

they're made of sapphire but gives a plexiglass effect...you're correct.
