Amanico's initial impressions of the Cartier Santos-Dumont Platinum Red Lacquer from Watches and Wonders 2022 provide a crucial first look at a significant release. His detailed photographs and observations on the watch's proportions, material feel, and aesthetic coherence offer an invaluable perspective for collectors considering this limited-edition piece. This article synthesizes community reactions to contextualize its reception and enduring appeal.

It seems that this year, Cartier has something with colored lacquer.

Here, it is on the bezel and on the top of the case.

The official photo:

My attempt:

The case has nice proportions, 43, 5 x 31, 4 mm and quite thin, with 7, 3 mm height.

Platinum gives to the watch a great feeling. Consistent, not heavy.

As often, the red ruby on the crown is delicious. Matching with the red touches on the dial. Well done, once again.

The movement, Ref 430 MC is manual winding, with a power reserve of 38 hours.

Limited to 150 pieces.

Cool novelty, but my heart is taken by another novelty from Cartier, this year.

Best,

Nicolas

a great deal. Extremely tastefully executed. Love the color of the lacquer, the matching strap color, and the understated, subtle dial details. Great stuff from Cartier, Filip

The combination of platinum and red lacquer is pure Cartier style. I will be viewing this watch very soon along with several more.

I’m interested in this one and the Chinoise Pt non-skeleton version….both still add up to less than that YG Skeleton Chinoise, and again save enough for Destro 😅
