Fernando's return to Cartier after a long hiatus highlights the enduring appeal of classic design. His acquisition of the Santos-Dumont XL in rose gold sparks a discussion on its elegant proportions and versatile wearability. This post offers valuable insights into why this particular model resonates with collectors seeking understated luxury.
I’m back to Cartier after a very long hiatus. This was the model that caught my eye when I was accompanying a friend to the Cartier boutique recently. An elegant 2 hand Santos-Dumont XL, manual wind in RG. Comparing the different metals, this one stood out for me and even though I’m generally not a fan of coloured metals, I had no hesitation in choosing it over the others.
Being vertically challenged at 7.5mm is not such a bad thing for a watch that easily slips under the cuff or sleeve in the winter months. Perfect for those nights sitting beside the fireplace sipping your favourite scotch or cognac. The XL term is a bit of a misnomer here as it conforms well to the wrists of normal to even smaller dimensions. This is one Cartier that I’m happy to re-introduce myself back to the brand.

I have been cruising the website looking at the tank cintree. Something so classy about cartier.
